Jim Barton

You could use the P-51 as your "warm-up" kit before starting the C-54. Will be looking forward to watching both your builds.

I could, that might be a good idea!  Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to research the difference's in the box art and an actual late P-51D's dorsal fillet as I'm unaware of this flaw Academy has done!

Check out this picture you can see the difference

Buckeye

Can't wait to see how that Skymaster comes out!

Mike

Me too!  As I mentioned, I'm very weary of building this kit due to it's complexity, there are 352 parts.  Plus the paint scheme is incredibly difficult for me, at least that's what it seems to me.  Thank you Buckeye for the support in my builds!

I have have had an interest to make this C-54 into a fire bomber for a while Toshi, so I cannot wait to see you work on it. This kit has had good reviews.  As far as the Orange and White, it should not be too hard. Having painted fire bombers in the past I was taught to paint the entire plane with a light, even coat of white primer. Then paint the Aluminum, mask, prime the area of aluminum overspray, then lay your white, mask and prime the over spray area, then lay the orange. Let every coat dry between 4 to 24 hrs depending on if your using acrylics or enamels.  Using a flat white primer will allow the top coats to look even, since orange has a tendency to look blotchy if the undercoat is not even.  Keep all you coats light.  Orange may need several.  Tamiya has a new contour tape that will make masking around the nose and those pesky deicer boots easier.  Remember to feather the paint as you get near your mask line so that the demarcation will not be so drastic and you won't run the risk of paint bleed.   Paint the black deicer boots and nose last. Good luck!  Scott

Wow, that sounds so cool!  A fire bomber!  I'd love to see that when the time comes.  I did also read reviews and concour with your statement that the Revell C-54 has high marks in build quality.  But most importantly, thank you for the the tips in painting and masking the kit as well as your support in all my projects!

Couple of nice additionsthere Toshi. I hearthose Academy P-51's are nice kits and that C-54 looks like it will be nice and big.

Thank you my friend!  I've made one Academy P-51 and theye are great.  Matter of fact I built one and the fit and finish were phenominal.  The C-54 is a monstrous kit!  LOL!  It seems very complex and very well detailed.  It's paint sceme is what concerns me but I'll always find away!  Thank you for always being there for me and supporting every single build I've done!

That C-54 has been on my radar, so I will be watching your progress on that one.  Congrats Toshi!

LOL!  LOL!  Mrs. Toshi does rock!  LOL!  I didn't know that the C-54 has been a kit that's been on your radar.  That's very very cool.  I'll try to do the best job I possibly can in regards to the Skymaster.  It seems to be a intricate and difficult kit with a very complex paint scheme that scare's me for now.  I'm sure when I delve into the C-54, I'll be able to tackle this kit.

Thank you so very much for always supporting my projects.  It means so very much to me especially our coversation!

Toshi

Well it is a pleasure watching your builds.

I can see where the NMF can be daunting.  For me too!  I'm sure it will be an awesome build.

Nice additions. The Mustang is a decent little kit. I have built 1 with two more in stash. The only issue is the artwork on the box.  Shows an early D with no dorsal fillet but the kit is a late D.  Can't wait to see you tackle the Skymaster.

Thank you so very much tempestjohnn.  I opened the box and can conclude to your comment in that it, the P-51D Mustang; "Is a decent little kit".  Wow, with two more in the stash that you have is very cool and will keep you very busy as I assume you have much more kits in your stash that await your skilled building techniques.

I'll have to research the difference's in the box art and an actual late P-51D's dorsal fillet as I'm unaware of this flaw Academy has done!  I can't wait to tackle the C-54 Skymaster Kit as well. I'm just very scared of the complexity of the paint sceme!  I'm sure when I start that WIP, there will be many forum members able to help me with this issue.  That's why I love everyone here, you are all my second family!

Thank you Tempestjohnny in your support and belief in me.  This means so much to me!

Toshi, thouse are some great kits you got there can't wait to see what you do with the C-54.

Robert

Thank you Modelrob.  Yes, I have to agree with you in that; "These are some great kits" I have.  I'm very hesitant in starting the C-54 Skymaster kit as the paint scheme is very complex and seems difficult.  I'm sure when I start a WIP thread on the C-54, forum members will chime in on advice.

Thank you Modelrob for your support and our conversations with each other.  This means so much to me!

That's some very nice kits and supplies you were gifted with Toshi! That C-54 is a grand kit and should be a stunner when completed.

Thank you roger_wilco.  Yes, those kits and supplies; "That were gifted to me" are very cool.  The C-54 Skymaster kit is what scares me the most.  I don't know how to do the paint scheme!  LOL!  Thanks roger_wilco for everything you helped and supported me with!

Aggieman

Nice Christmas for you! You are blessed to have such a thoughtful wife. I have that big kit in my stash and have given it some consideration to making an appearance on my bench.

Yes, a very nice Christmas for me.  You are so correct, I have been blessed with Mrs. Toshi by my side.  I try to do everything for her!  That's very cool that you have this very kit in your stash.  Have you ever considered on how you would apply the paint scheme.

This is what scares me.  It seems very complicated.  I don't know where to start.  LOL!  Thank you Aggieman for your support on my threads.  It means very much to me!

My Christmas Presents From Mrs. Toshi
Posted by Toshi on Monday, December 5, 2016 9:17 PM

To my fellow forum members,

Today was Christmas for me as Mrs. Toshi took me to Hobby Lobby and told me to pick up whatever I wanted.  She did this as my Academy P-38 Lightning and my Eduard Brasin "Big Sin" Resin/Photoetch kit has not arrived yet.

So for the interim I get to build these 2 kits you see below.  Yes, I'm a spoiled brat!  LOL!  The Academy P-51D Mustang seems very straight forward.  That'll be another nice build.  The other kit is what I'm very scared of!  Yes, I'm afraid of that kit.

I'm thinking how in the world am I going to paint with the color orange.  And to mask the nose of this aircraft.  Then on goes the white and NMF, this issue seems extremely difficult.

This process makes me very scared.  That's why I bought it.    I wanted to challenge myself with this kit.  Upon opening the Skymaster kit, there are so many spruces and parts it's crazy.  I'm going to have a great time trying to figure this kit out and how to AB this monster kit!  LOL!

On a very serious note, there are decals for the Douglas C-54 Skymaster, USAF, Airlift Berlin Wiesbaden AB.  My father was stationed at Wiesbaden.  This aircraft is very special to me!

Thank you my fellow forum members for helping me and supporting my builds.

Toshi
