Too Little-Too Late Group Build Feeler
Posted by mustang1989 on Friday, January 6, 2017 5:34 PM

Ok  everybody. I’ve been giving the idea of another aviation based group build a long thought over the past couple of weeks. The last one that I ran was the 2015 Bf109 GB and I didn’t finish anything for it so I kind of dropped out of the aircraft realm for a while……until recently with my Arado 234 . I was almost not going to run one at all this year but rooster513 (Andy)  came out from nowhere and asked to co-host one with me and it kind of spurred me on some. At first we talked about a Bf109 GB but we’ve had that and then another 190 GB but we’ve had that too. I’ve been on a late war jet craze this last year so I figured a GB that would center itself around any German aircraft around the last of the war when all the really crazy ideas seemed to flourish with the Luftwaffe. Things like the Ta-152, Fw190 V-18’s , Bf109 K’s , Me262 and 163’s and most anything that went in the air that was either a later model or a new design starting in 1944 and on through war’s end in early 1945. To me and Andy it seemed like a good idea so we thought we’d throw together a Group Build Feeler to see what the interest was. If we get enough feedback we’ll start a Group Build out of called “The Too Little-Too Late GB” or something of the sort.

Subjects would be anything, fighter OR bomber, of the Luftwaffe’s later model mainstream aircraft (109’s-190’s …etc) to some of the more advanced prop or jet designs. The GB would run one full year to give everyone enough time to complete their builds. I’ve been pretty flexible with this in my GB’s towards the end of the year to keep the GB open long enough to let everyone finish after the deadline.

With that, Andy and I would like to hear what you guys thoughts are on this in regards to interest in participating in something like this. This time round I think I’ll be able to finish one anyways. Wink

MMM, let me think about this. German aircraft, late war. I think i might be able to find something. Big Smile

Just to be clear, does this have to be something that entered service?

Glad to be on bord. Looks like I missed the 109 to bad I have quite a few of them.

Do project aircraft that where just pre production work. And what about planed models like ta52 c or planed late model fw-190 torpedo planes.

Real planes just models they didn't have time to get 2. But was planed. Because we start to get into the what if 1946 aircraft ?

That'd be really cool to have you on board Bish! Now that you mention it, and I didn't cover it, but no it doesn't have to be anything that entered service. Ho-229's and Natters and aircraft like those are just fine.

Always a pleasure Joe. And that gives me plenty ofoptions. I might finally get around to a 234.

Do you have a time frame in mind. I have been thinking about a 262 GB next year seeing as its been a while since we had an aircrfat specific GB. But i would push that back so the two don't clash.

Sounds great!  I have several kits that would qualify.  Might go with a 190 or 152.  Will let you know!

Call me crazy for wanting to hop onto a 3rd group build- but count me in! I'll build either an old Frog Ta-152 or a Revell Me262 night fighter! Both kits have been sitting around in my stash gathering untold amounts of dust particles. Time to get em' outta there!

Bish: We'll give it till the end of this week with this feeler and so far the turn out looks like it's going to be good. With that said , we're looking at a start up on .......say....the 20th of January.

Matt: A 190 or Ta 152 sounds perfect!! Will be good to have you in there.

Johnny: Same goes to you for being in bud. Another Ta 152!!! Woo Hoo!!

rocker: You'll fit right in with the rest of us crazy folks. Ta 152's are ruling the board here. Awesome. 262's are a good fit as well.

Actually, scrap the 234. I have just realised the timing is perfect for a build i will be starting in a couple of weeks anyway. I'll be in with a Dragon 72nd He 162. I might try and squeeze in a 234 later in the year.

I might be able to give you some on that 162 PJ. When i do the Dragon kit i'll also be building that revell one. I am doing a WiP on them but will also have the 32nd kit in the modern aircraft GB.

If I can get around to it within the year I'd be game, assuming a Do-335 would fit?

Haven't done a GB before but I'm in a good position to start! This may be a bit of a stretch but would a 190D-9 or 13 be legit? Just got this Hase 1/32 'Barkhorn' 190D-9 and a GB would be a great way to start my first ever 1/32 kit!

That sounds like a winner to me Steve. Hang tight for another week or so. I see an official GB coming out of this feeler the way it's going. Good to see you hanging around BTW. I see that you've been a member since 2009. Looking forward to seeing your D-9 shape up.
