1/72 Eastern Express D.520

Hey guys!

Did a WIP of this over on the modelmakers subReddit. The only reason I actually built this was for the 'Crappy Kit's Group Build'. It was not only my first Group Build, (on any platform), but it was also my first time ever using my airbrush. (If anyone's interested, my build ----> https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/60nus1/eastern_express_d520_crappy_kits_gb_completed/, the GB>  https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/5nt1uk/groupbuild_crappy_kit/)

The insignia are spares from an Airfix Ju.88, the number four on the tail is from the kit's decals, and the company name and aircraft number on the tail were printed on clear decal paper on my printer. Gloss clear coat was future cut with windex, flat coat was Dullcote from a can. I used a little bit of Novus 1 to polish the canopy.

Little chipping was done with a small brush and testors Metallic Silver Enamel. Exhaust stain and slight gun residue are Tamiya Weathering Master. Since I scribed the panel lines, I used Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent Color on them.

Overall, I'm really happy with how this came out. It was my first time using an airbrush, and I am definitely sold on the tool.

Nice job Wag !

I haven't built the Eastern Express kit - but it looks like you've tamed the little beast.  Thats a tiny plane.  Your paint work is very nice - especially for such a small plane in this scale.

Those stripes certainly wipe out any effort at camoflage huh ?

Thanks Chris! Yeah, they do. But, I guess since Vichy France was TOTALLY nuetral, hey've gotta have em.

Also, thanks John. Airbrushing sure is different than the paintbrush.

Great job on what must have been a bear of a kit. And the Vichy markings are perfect.

Our club's resident Francophile modeler refers to the Vichy markings as 'slave bands'. Don't know if that's a thing or just his term.

You could say that ;) Thanks for the comment about the Vichy bands! I've never heard anyone else call them 'slave bands'; but it's not exactly inaccurate, is it?
