Hey guys, I want you to understand the the call letters were not free hand painted; I made stencils and airbrushed them and then touched them up with a brush. The Flak Bit nose art was hand brushed over a faint decal!
Never-the-less I need to wrap this project up. Still looking for a specific white stencil for the nose gear door and there is a hard stand in production; but she is done!
Thank you for all of you who took the time to view my progress and especially all the kind words which I have received. They were all very encouraging.
Oh wow, thats the stuff!!!
No way on Earth could I have brush painted instead of decals and not had it look like a mess.

Just a superb build! I'm shocked at how well you hand painted the numbers on the Marauder. That is just so cool looking! I wouldn't change a thing!

After about a week after completing Flak Bait, I returned to the project to review the results. There were several changes that were made that would not be considered to be of any significance. The most extensive change was to add more weathering to the neutral grey camouflage. You can see in the first photo that it just did not come up (or down) to 200 mission standards.
at the declaration of "finished" a week ago:
Additional weathering:
This is a photo of Flak Bait on her 200th mission on 18 April ,1945. The model is suppose to represent her just before take off!
Great job Mate, way better than good! This is absolutely my favorite aircraft.
You inspire me to build another one and TRY to emulate your painting and weathering techniques, but I'll hafta check my putty stores to see if I have enough.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Great build, Shipwreck! The time and effort paid off in spades. Love the handpainted letters!

Dayum Shipwreck, she looks absolutely stunning! Those hand painted letters look fabulous and just perfect the way they are.
This is a job VERY well done. :D

Yes indeed. I figured your timeframe from the white codes, war worn look, and no invasion stripes. I well researched her for my build of her as she looked on D-Day. She had just flown her 100th mission only a short time before so I had to alter the mission marks accordingly. As well as "gray" out the stars and use the gray ID codes from that point of her career. And of course have fresh looking invasion stripes over an already well worn paint scheme.

Beautiful!!! You really did a good job of showing how beat up she was at the end of the war!
That sir looks fantastic to me. I can't believe that's hand painted. It looks like a decal to me, what a great build sir!
I have declared my B-26 build completed; now for clean-up and sealing, and maybe a hard stand. I did not have a decal sheet for Flak Bait, so I had to do the nose art and mission bombs from photos, the white call letters on the fuselage were brush painted, the national insignia from the kit sheet. At this point I will set it aside and think about it after a couple of days!
Looks good Shipwreck. Keep the pics coming.

Shipwreck,
I have used the salt technique several times and was very happy with my results. I see that your salt technique is fantastic and I'm most impressed with the chipping effect!
Shipwreck !
That is coming along nicely . I got to see Flak - Bait at the Smithsonian . That was a lesson in squish ! I had more room in the office of my B-25 . Anyway even if you have to do the other bird , you're doing a bang up job . War Weary in Miniature ! Cool ! T.B.
Looks great Mr. Shipwreck! This was one of the first models I have done in the past. Now I want to do another one and trash the first....
Ship -
Wow ! - That's a masterful job of fading. I can tell thats gonna look really nice already.

She's lookin' good SW!
You're making me want to pull mine out and start on it, last thing I need is to start something else...
That Marauder is not even finished and it already looms war weary... Very nicely done!
OOOO me likey !
In preparation for the final camouflage and paint chipping, I airbrushed Chrome Silver X-11 on the top surfaces with some Flat Aluminum and Metallic Grey. The bottom surfaces were left prime with some Dark Grey.
The top surfaces were sprayed with Olive Drab XF-62 with Flat White and Dark Green. The bottom was sprayed with XF-53 Nutral Grey and some white, black and dark grey.
The paint chipping was done with salt. After some sanding, it will be ready for some Future and decals.
M. Brindos Yep, lol. There is always that one seam.
Yep, lol. There is always that one seam.
Nope, can't ever have too many B-26s! Nice work, looking forward to seeing her all painted up.
The first coat of primer went on yesterday. That means I had a lot of patching up to do this morning. This afternoon the second coat of primer was applied. There is still several minor touch ups that are needed, but it is close the next base coat of silver.
I suppose there has to be at least one uncooperative seam.
I have experimented with Lazer Bond on this model. So far the results are good. It is like a clear 2 part epoxy; strong bond, but it does not sand! It has a precise applicator for filling gaps; just clean up the excess, like immediately!
Everything looks good shipwreck. Interested in seeing how the first coat looks!
