Great kit. But, why doest thou sayest 'Revell'? Tis Monogram. An of what are these big problem you speak of?

 

I would say that the B-29 was the first aluminium cloud. I believe the C-5 holds that title right now.

The B-17, B-24, and B-29 are from the mid Seventies and are all 1/48.  The B-36 is 1/72.  Mine came with Shep Paine's diorama guide and the decals for Enola Gay and Bock's Car.  Never finished mine, don't know where it went.  One thing I do know is you're going to need weight, and lots of it. I look forward to your build.

 

 

 

 

I wish that Monogram would indicat how much weight is needed and where to put it. I just finished a  Hasegawa F-86 and the instructions indicated how much weight was needed to prevent a tail sitter.

 

 

If I remember right, you've got a lot of room in the nacelles.  I've seen people glue a short 1/2 inch nut and bolt in each nacelle.  There is room under cockpit, but not enough to keep her from sitting on her tail.  There used to be a guy that sold nose weights for various kits, but I haven't seen him in years. You'll have to get creative.

I'll be following this one for sure.  I put this kit together back in the 80s when I was a kid then hung it from my ceiling.  

I first built this kit in the late 1950's when I was about 10 years. I think that it was manufactured as a "box scale" model. "Box scale" means that the model was manufactured to fit into a box of a certain size. I think that Monogram also made their B-17, B-24 and B-36 as "box scale" models. Can anyone verify this?

Monogram did very few odd scale kits.  Exceptions were the Air Power set, and subsets of that sold.  Other than that, here is a page from the 1969 catalog that had what I think is the limit of off scale for Monogram.  Revell did a lot of box scale kits and they included the B-24, B-25, B-29, B-36, B-47, and B-52, but no B-17.

I've got one of these in my stash along with the B-36.  Already learned something:  I didnt know there was an upgrade set for it.

I bought the B-29 at Hobby Lobby last year. I do not recall how much I paid, but I did use my 40% off coupon.

This sounds like an endevour especially on this classic kit.  I'll be following as I know, with your skills, you'll be able turn this build into a marvelous piece of art.
