More Engines!

YES!

I'd also like to see some in-line engines as well, in 1/8.

Why not give some recognition to the heart of these beasts.  Yes indeed, more engines!

Ditto ditto ditto. I would also like to see models of the jet engines and turbo prop engines in "cut away" models. I have one P&W 1/8th scale engine (Williams Brothers) done and one in process for my in process 1/8 scale Lockheed Electra. In the rail road hobby you can get scale nuts, bolts, threaded rod etc. I replaced all of the bolt heads, threaded rod, and nuts on the 1/8th scale enines with these real brass items. it looks a lot better than the plastic. A lot of the old Williams Brothers stuff was intended to dress up flying models, e.g. radio control, free flight, and control line models. With the cost of plastic models going dramatically up it might be less expensive to go back to radio control models!!!

I did manage to pick up all but one of the Wright cylinders I need. Each one includes a drawing for the crankcase, which I can make with no problem. They discontinued the cylinders as a seperate sales item, and have had no luck finding the last one.

But I guess I can make a mold and cast the remaining one.  Liquid cooled engines are sure a lot easier to scratch build!

I don't have knowledge of the 1/8 engines but I did build a WIP 1/32 P-38 Lightning.  I cut the cowlings off to show off the engines.

I also have a WIP Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito that will be a visible Merlin engine.  It's not a 1/8 but thats what I have.

I've done the BMW 003 and DB 605 that Steve mentions above. I would like to see more in this scale but HPH have not produced any new ones in about 6 years.

This would be a good area for 3D printing. Not the entire mill, but the major components.

How about a Continental horizontal six?

Scratch build you say? That is outstanding Don  How is it I don't see more of your work? Am I just not looking in the right places?

 

 

I build more civil aircraft than military, also build and post in Ships, and an occasional Autos.  Even do about one Space model a year.

Here's my version of the Roden 1:32 Mercedes DIII engine.  As with most Roden kits, there's a lot of 'install these three parts at the same time'.  Getting things aligned is always a challenge in these kits:

Bish, those acrylic bases and plaques, they come with the model or you made them youself? Very nice builds btw.

 

Thanks. The plaques come with the kit but the stand is sold seperatly. Steve made his own for the packard engine and as you can see his is just as good. But i am to lazy for that

Well they do look good. The only bad thing is now there is another area of modelling I'm going to get into, curse you guys!

 

They are nice, though as Steve says, the instructions are tricky to follow.

And they are not cheap either. I buy direct from HPH, and its 60Euros for the engine, 20 for the stand and 22 for postage to UK. But you do get a nice little belgium chocholate in there and their customer service is first rate.
