I finally finished something (Tamiya 1:48 P51)
Posted by Greg on Sunday, April 30, 2017 5:40 PM

I started this P51 maybe a year ago as an OOB project to hopefully get me out of a slump. Been a strange year.

A few firsts: Alclad (nice stuff, thanks for the incentive to try it), attempt at figure painting as an adult, first diorama base. No excuses (except please excuse my lazy cell phone pic), it is what it is, and it was nice to build a nice, not overly complicated Tamiya kit.

Hi Greg, wanted to see your build, but unable to sign up for Yahscrew account. Several tries, guess they just don't like me, or know I won't buy something. Buggers.

Bet it's a nice job though.

Greg, just looked at your post above my tirade, there your Beautious build showed up. It's a dandy, mighty fine '51, thanks for the post and photo.

Patrick, I'd just signed up for a Flickr acccount to try it, and unwittingly had to create a yahoo account to do so. I am not a happy camper.

Trying again from my photobucket account.

Thanks Patrick!

I'm having a tirade of my own, really unhappy that I unwillingly and unknowingly created a Yahoo account by signing up for Flickr.

Nice work Greg,

The Alclad tuned out very nice and so are the figures.  The leather is quite convincing and the flesh tones look great.  And the Mustang is mighty fine !

You really did a fantastic job on the Mustang build.  Especially with the Alclad!  That's something I have yet to try, and your figures and diorama are superb.  Great job sir!

That looks great, Greg! Great finish, great figures (especially for an adult first), and great base! They all look great together. Its nice to be able to finally comment on one of your completed builds. You've always  paid me that kindness.  :)

Piper13, thanks for taking the time to look and for your nice comment.

Gamera, thanks buddy! I appreciate it. And I agree about the Tamiya. It was a treat and I don't think I had any issues with it at all.

Hey, it's TOSHI! One of the reasons I finished this was to show you that I build a little along with talking so much. Smile Thanks for finding this thread and for commenting, my friend. Whenever you get around to trying Alclad you'll have no trouble with it. Ventilate and use a respirator though, it goes all over the place and I'll not be using it again until I get a proper vented booth.

Mike, thanks so much! Nice of you to find this thread and comment. Appreciate your kind words on the figures. I sort of went burn-out before I was really done, but that said much of what I did right I got from you, and the non-so-rights are totally me. I really, really respect what you fellas are able to to with 1:48 figures now, that's for sure. You make it look so darned easy, and it isn't quite that.

Vol, how nice to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my Mustang, it is appreciated.

Well it's Uncle Jay Jay. Surprise Definitely a treat to hear from you, and thank you for finding this and taking the time to comment.

Thanks for all of your support, you started out my Monday on a very nice, positive note. Coffee

7474, kind of you to drop in and I sure appreciate your kind words. (If you don't see issues it's because I posted a low-rez image so you can't see them. Stick out tongue)

Hey Brandon, thank you!

Well thank you, Scott. That is very kind and cheers right back atcha!

Bruce, thank you for the kind words, neighbor (IN/OH). I do appreciate it!

And Bish found this too. Cool. Thanks my friend. I can't imagine you having much of a difficult time with much of anything model-related, but if you say so. If memory serves, one of your display bases might have been the first I'd ever seen. I remember thinking "that's a neat idea, I'll try that if I ever get brave enough to paint a standing figure and need a base". Toast

Well, i am glad i inspired some one Greg. My main problem when i first used it was wrong primer and not enough elbow grease to give a nice smooth finish. But i have learned since then and have 3 72nd Tamiya P-51's which i hope i can do justice on.

After having seen what you've done here I may just have to get that Tamiya kit. My only reservation would be my total lack of experience using Alclad. Your little diorama looks superb! From what I can see you've done a brilliant job on the figures as well.

Twenty kills - really? Big Smile (I know nothing about the aircraft or pilot - so just curious).
