PBY 5A post war interior question.
Posted by Wilbur Wright on Friday, May 5, 2017 5:55 PM

Hi Guys,

I just started the Revell Germany PBY-5A kit number 04507.  This is a post war rescue aircraft.   The back bubbles were used for observation instead of machine guns.

I can't find any photos of this interior area without the machine gun mounts.

The kit instructions are vague and say to cut the mounts.  I did this and it looks bare.

Does anyone know what this interior area would look like in a post war rescue aircraft?  Were there seats there. There must have been something there or someone observing with binoculars would go flying all over the place.  I am doing the OB-999 from Goose Bay Labrador 1948.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, the best I could do. Could be something like that, a little more spartan.

Smile

I do hope somebody can answer your question, Wilbur. In the meantime, that hit me as pretty funny, GM.

That interior suits me just fine!

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

But off-topic scroll down on that page and read the story of Thomas Kendall - crazy

Thanks,

Yes, I saw the party boat photos in my original search.

If anyone can help with the real thing,  please chime in.  I'd like to get it correct for a search and rescue.

But seriously, that pretty much is the same as my pic.

A bench fore-afT with a cushion on it.

There's a PBY suspended over a pond down in Balboa Park in San Diego. It was used for some of the shots in the movie of the musical "South Pacific".

Luther Billis falls out of the aircraft from that position.

Thanks stikpusher that appears to be it.

They left the machine gun mounts which is what I will do.

They could strap into them for observation in search and rescue.

This is a very fine kit PBY-999.  Unfortunatley the main canopy  back corner was poorly molded in my kit.  Almost like thin cellophane so I will have to repair or get a new one which is a kick in the head for an expensive kit.

This is the second Revell Germany kit with a badly injection molded part.  The other being their 1/32 spitfire which they sent a replacement fuselage half (it was not reparable). But it takes over a month.

Right... just leave out the guns and any ammo box(es) & feed chutes...
