America's Leading Ace - - E.T.O.
Posted by Tanker - Builder on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 7:50 AM

  Hi ;

 I just thought I would mention this . I was channel surfing last night ( looking for something besides my Landlady's cooking shows )

 When , Lo and Behold , I found myself on the History Channel and a program called " Air Aces ". Their subject . A fellow by the name Of Gabreski . Name seem familiar ? Yep " Gabby " Gabreski .

     I would guess I am doing Gabby's plane from the early Korean campaign ? It's a P-47 " Bubbletop " in natural metal and Not the Razorback he flew in the E-T-O.

    Anyway what a driven man he was . Not a "Hero" just a man driven by anger and patriotism .He wanted to punish the ***** for what they did to his Homeland ( Poland ) and he wanted to ensure American Bombers got through to rain bombs on their manufacturing capabilities .

   My hat is off to " Gabby " He passed in 2002 , But shall remain in the hearts of us who were displaced by the **** juggernaut .Thanks Gabby !  T.B.

Understand that he flew P-47Ds in Europe during WWII, then flew F-86 Sabres in the Korean war some eight years later. If you're doing a bubbletop P-47, that's WWII. Enjoy!

Gabby was also a P-36/40 pilot at Pearl Harbor, but got airborne too late to be in the action.

Oh yeah - a great Polish-American pilot! I have just checked it on the 'net - the last P-47Ds that Gabreski flew were late D bubble-tops. At the time his unit got the P-47Ms he was already a POW. Then the P-47s were moved to National Guard units and I don't think they have seen combat in Korea at all.

Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Paweł

Pawel;

   This now becomes a special build . " Gabby " did what many of us couldn't because we were too young . I personally had an uncle who committed action against the REICH .He was not proud of what they were doing to Europe , Especially Germany ! .

 What did he do ? I shan't say , but I certainly was proud of him till the day he passed . Needless to say I have done many models of his Machinery .   T.B.
