Monogram Mustang P-51B finished
Posted by iampiper13 on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 7:30 PM

I started this about a week and a half ago and just didn't take the time to do a WIP. I've been wanting to do a B for awhile now and found this one on eBay. I'm pretty pleased with the fit and am actually pleased with the work I did on it, I'm definitely growing lol and you people deserve the credit, I've learned a lot since I've been here!

I've been hoping Revel would re-release this kit so I could find it easier lol.

Very nice job, Piper! Looks great.  :)

Nice  model, and you should show it on the Monogram Mafia topic too.

Monogram retooled the molds for the Pro Modeler release of the kit. It now has recessed panel lines, a better cockpit, a higher parts count, and a few other upgrades. It was last reissued a few years ago in a boxing featuring Tex Hill's mount. You'll have to check kit collector shows and swap meets if you want to find the original Ding Hao version.

And yes, that is a great job you did on that build Piper.

Did a quick search on eBay and saw one of these kits for $15 inc shipping if you are still looking for one.

Well hopefully there are kit swap meets, IPMS meetings, or something like that near you. Or perhaps check with somebody like Rare Plane Detective. Just curious, do you want the Ding Hao markings, or would you want the Ghost Air Force boxing?

Oh I'd take either boxing if I could find it locally, Stik. I like the thrill of the hunt.  ;)

Great job, Piper!! Seeing your build, with the box in the background, brought back a lot of memories from the 1970s, back when I was an early teen building that exact same kit. Plus, of course, the Monogram P-51D version of "Detroit Miss", and all the other Monigram kits that were out back then. All good memories.........

And, I must say, my finished kits back then did not turn out nearly as well as your example above..........
