Looks fantastic!  This kit is next in my queue, and I can only hope it turns out 1/10 as good as yours.  Yes

Can I ask where you got the decals from?  I'm not too keen on either of the schemes that come with the kit but since I've only used kit-supplied decals before, I don't know who makes good quality decal sets.  I've been looking at some sheets from Zotz, and also from Lifelike Decals.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks Mark. They are Superscale decals I got from Spruebrothers when they were on sale. I had some trouble with them settling down but not sure if it was user error on my part. It was my first time using non-kit decals. There certianly is now shortage of aftermarket decals for the P-47 though. Hardest part is deciding which to buy!Big Smile

Thanks for the info Andy, I'll look into those.  Yeah, there are way too many P-47 markings out there to choose from!  haha.. but that's a good problem to have.

Cheers, Mark

Beautiful looking P-47 rooster. Beer

Tamiya makes some very nice fitting models. The high shine Alclads are not difficult. You just need a glass smooth gloss black first then the high shine Alclad. The black gives it depth as you slowly build up the color.

That looks really nice! I haven't used Alclad yet, how does the duraluminum stand up to masking?

Thanks silentbob! I had no issues using Tamiya tape. I just removed some of the tackiness by sticking it to a piece of paper a few times and it worked great. Only problem with paint pull off I had was after I painted the red on the prop spinner over the Alclad, I masked to paint the props black and when I removed the tape some of the red pulled off the spinner. I assume it's because the acrylic doesn't bite into the Alclad very well, but I may not have waited long enough for the acrylic to cure either. Just something to watch out for.

Wow great build. Between the 109 and this you've really been a busy modeler

Great job on one of the best kits ever produced. Love the NMF birds.

Nice.  I love a NMF bird, never had the fortitude to try one.

Thanks guys! goldhammer, i was reluctant to try at first too but it isn't too bad. It's not a whole lot different then a normal paint job, just need more surface prep. I'm sure the high shine Alclad colors are a different animal but the Duraluminum laid down pretty good. I've seen some of your builds and I know you could pull it off.

Beautiful Job!  I love silver jugs.  This is the first one I've seen with the "Rough and Ready" nose art, and I like it.  Does it represent a specific bird from a specific pilot?

Thanks ridleusmc! Yes it was flown by Capt. William Garry, an ace from the 395th FS.

Hi all! I just finished this one up for the Thunderbolt GB and thought I'd post some finished pics here as well. This is Tamiaya's beautiful P-47D bubbletop in the markings of Rough and Reay flown by Capt. Bill Garry.
