Nightmarish spray can job on my 1/32nd......how to fix if possible?
Posted by KAYSEE88 on Monday, June 12, 2017 2:07 PM

heres what happened.......i sprayed with Tamiya Lacquer can on a hot afternoon with AC on.  The drab color browned, and blobbed in areas. 80% was smooth and beautiful.

Model is the HUGE 1/32 heinkel 111 that i spent months building, filling and sanding.

Now how do I recover from this nightmare? I don't want to strip the whole thing, because some areas are good.  Can i decant paint into AB and cover my mess?

I'm on a deadline to hand model over to a friend in days. Any advice is most appreciated!!!

Yes, you can decant spray can paint and airbrush it.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Without seeing what the damage actually looks like, I'll suggest lightly sanding out the areas where the paint blobbed, then yes, you can decant spray can paint into a jar to spray through your AB.

I built that Heinkel about a year ago, and yeah, it is huge!

Good luck.

You can dip a soft toothbrush in DoT3 brake fluid and remove the trouble spots. Wash the area with warm water and Dawn to remove it. No harm will come to the areas where the brake fluid has not been applied. The Dawn will neutralize and remove the remaining brake fluid residue.

Entire process should take less than an hour to complete. Prime and respray to victory!

That should help.  :)

Make sure you use a GLASS jar when you decant, or risk melting the new container (don't ask me how I know!)

I have had this happen as well, and one lesson I learned is that after you have cleaned up the blotched area, lay down a coat of primer to see if you corrected the defected area and also prep the surface for the topcoat.  You might have had something on the plastic that the paint reacted to.  It should turn out fine.
