Monogram 1/48 Hawker Typhoon Mk.1B - 1967 Tooling, 50yrs old....
Posted by UKguyInUSA on Sunday, July 30, 2017 3:14 PM

Hello Chaps,

It's been a while since I posted, but my excuse is, I've been busy with hosting "Buddy Builds" on YouTube and Facebook.

My latest buddy build that began on July 1st and ends on December 31st is called "The Spiffy Tiffy" buddy build....it's going pretty well so far with 37 participants and 47 models being built.

I'm building two "Tiffy's", the first I just completed this week- a 1967 tooling, the Monogram 1/48 Hawker Typhoon Mk.1b, and on Monday August 7th, I'll be making a start on the Airfix 1/24th scale kit!

This Monogram kit is as expected for a 50 yr old kit, raised panel line and rivet details, minimal detail in the cockpit, but, with some TLC, the addition of scratch-built seat-belts, a whip antenna, a UHF antenna and some fuse leads for the rockets, it can look reasonable.

So here she is...I hope you like how she turned out Smile

Spectacular build. Love the camo and weathering. Hard to believe that is a 50 year old kit.

Hands down one of my favorite WWII Allied aircraft. I have two "Tiffys" in my stash. On Revell, the other Monogram. My plan is one in standard British livery the other in captured german colors. Your bird looks AWESOME, looking forward to getting mine going. Thanks for the insperation.

Tremerndous build! that old Monogram isn't a bad kit at all. one of my many Typhoon bilds was that kit.  Wonder why they didn't have the invasion stripes on the wing tops?

Very nice build. I have a Typhoon waiting its turn in the queue, but I plan on mine being the sole NF1B prototype. Going to be a bugger getting details of the cockpit mods though!

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Talk about getting the most of an old kit. Beautiful job my friend.

Thanks Armornut, much appreciated. I'm presently running a "Spiffy Tiffy Buddy Build" on YouTube and Facebook that ends on December 31st, wherein someone is building one in the German captured markings...that'll be an interesting build to make a change from the normal liveries.

If you're on YouTube and/or facebook and would like to join in, you're more than welcome!
