Eduard 1/32 P-47 Dottie Mae - Need advice.
I need some advice, or encouragement… or something. Hahaha.
I’m currently finishing up my build of the Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubbletop and the next model in my queue is another Jug, this time the big Eduard P-47 Dottie Mae in 1/32 scale.
Originally I was just thinking of doing an OOB build of it, but as I have been researching this plane I’ve become fascinated by the story of it’s restoration after sitting at the bottom of an Austrian lake for 60 years.
Now I am thinking about making a diorama of the Dottie Mae during her restoration. Staging a scene similar to the picture on this website:
I’m attracted to the idea for several reasons, mostly because it would involve doing things I’ve never done before. For instance, I’ve never made a diorama. Also, I’ve never scratch-built anything. It looks like this would need a lot of scratch-building! Also, all the open panels at the front would mean super-detailing the engine.
Conversely, I’m terrified of this project too… for the exact same reasons. lol
I have only made four models since returning to the hobby seven months ago. Would this project be out of my league? Would it be an interesting subject? Would it drive me to despair? Hahaha
What do you think I should do? An OOB build of the Dottie Mae, or a large-scale diorama of the restoration project? I’m open to any other ideas too.
