Great start!  I've seen a few documentaries that included Mr. Rall.  He seemed to be an all around good man with many great stories!  Looking forward to seeing your progress.

A really good read is Gunther Rall's book "My Logbook". It chronicles all of his air to air combat victories. Post WW2 Gunther Rall was the father of the modern Lufwaffe. He flew F-104s in the jet age. - Mike

I thought I updated this, but apparently I hadn't. It got basically the same treatment as the Fw 190 with Mission paints as they were painted simultaneously.  I did add the yellow ID markings as needed using Tamiya flat yellow with a touch of flat red and taped them off before the RLM 76 went down.

I used Blue Tac worms to mask off the pattern here too.  

I then weathered it with dilted red brown (XF-64) and NATO (XF-69).

Almost time for some gloss.

Joe, Your weathering/painting/pre-shading, etc. finishing skills are the cat's meow.

I've always wanted to try to do what you do with the pre-shading but I guess that A) my hand with the A/B in it is just not steady enough and, B) I don't seem to end up with the shading showing through. I have some kits that, although I bought them thinking I might someday build them, I now am sure they'll never be built. In many cases I've changed my building philosophy from "get a cheap kit to start with" to: "Get the best kit you can afford since we're only on this delightful planet for a very short stay." Some of the kits I know I won't ever build may become my test beds for painting/weathering techniques. Practice, practice, practice.

Keep plugging away at it you will get it. Mine don't always look the way I like.

B-Dog, I'm using very light coats at about 15 psi.  

Going with done.  To recap, it's the Hasegawa 1/48 Bf-109 G-2 in Gunther Rall's JG 52 markings in the spring of 1942.  Rall was remarkable pilot being shot down 8 times and wounded three times.  He was a 275 kill ace, with all of his kills being in the Bf 109.  

The Hasegawa kit is decent but very basic. This particular boxing was the newer-tooled G-6 version that had a resin top nose and wheels for a G-2, which incidentally didn't fit, either of them!.  I ended up using the kit supplied nose and Ultracast wheels.  

To sum it up, It's no match for the new Eduard kit, but these can be found half the cost. I spruced it up with some PE inside the pit and Ultracast tires. I drilled out the deck guns and added brake lines.  The decals are Aeromaster and worked great, but they reminded me how much I like spray masks.  

I've been using Testors dullcote for years as it delivers the sheen I like...flat with an ever so slight sheen and dries almost immediately. The problem is the noxious fumes.  I decided to see if there were better options.  I obtained Mission Models flat and Alclad's Matte.  First I tried the Mission and found it to be too shiny.  I then hit it with the Alclad which seemed to work the best of the two, but I still prefer Testors. I'm open for ideas.

Where do you display all your models? (I may have asked you this before but my aged brain doesn't recall ). Do you have a basement full of finished kits? Do you have a special room for them all? In my 1500 sq. ft. condo I don't really have much room for many finished kits. My hope is that as I build a few more I may find 5 to 8 that I really want to display. The rest are for the trash - until I win lotto and can afford a mansion to display everything .

Mike, I don't store them.  At this point in my life the enjoyment comes from the building aspect.  They are either commission builds or built and sold online.  I've managed to snag a few regular customers in this manner, as evidenced by me building three Corsairs .  I'm in the same boat with the storage issues, but I have a few I will not part with.  I have a wife and a pre-teen daughter that up all the space...
