ManCityFan Somehow I missed this WIP. Read through the whole thread, and I have to say I really like your finished product. Sounds like some twists and turns during painting, but you got it down in the end. I would be pleased to have that in my display case. Excellent job. D

Thank You sir. I was surprised at how much space this took up in my display case. I'm gonna need a bigger boat..Lol
Dwayne or Dman or just D. All comments are welcome on my builds.
Greatmaker Gamera I love how she turned out. Despite your problems that's a beautiful job! Thanks Gamera I need to take some lessons from you on figure painting. Mine look more like finger painting. Maybe I should have added a mustache on one of them?

There are boatloads of videos on figure painting on YouTube by people waaaaayyyyy better than me.

Bish Nice looking Mossie, i like it.
Nice looking Mossie, i like it.
Thanks Bish
I have a revell one to build later on. I’m sure it won’t compare to the Tamiya for fit. First thing I did was mask the canopies on this one then I ordered a set of masks for the revell. No way am I going to try and mask that one with Tamiya tape
kensar It came out well. The canopy looks great. Those bombs out on the wings look a little out of place, but I'm sure that's authentic. The colors look fine to me.

Thanks Kensar The kit had 3 variants this one was shown with bombs instead of rockets on the wings

Thank you This model was like a good book that you just can’t put down. I just wished the model master RAF dark green was a better paint. I tried to thin it down and spray light coats but it came out darker than I wanted

This was an extremely fun kit to build. Other than the color scheme I"m happy with how it turned out Montex masks worked well and spraying stynylrez primer on the canopies first did protect it from the more agressive primer On to the next

Well I wish I could say I was REAL happy with the color scheme but I'm not. It's a ton better than the first debacle though. You can see the color difference between the prop spinner ocean gray and the rest of it medium gray Thanks to my screwup some areas have 5 layers of paint. I did try to lighten the dark green by laying down a coat of light gray but that only worked somewhat. Im sure weathering will help some

Sometimes weird stuff happens. I painted the underside neutral gray and I liked how that turned out. I painted the upper surface ocean gray and RAF dark gray. Hated how that looked but I faded it and I thought it looked a tiny bit better until......I hit it with gloss coat. Back to crap. Then I hemmed and hawed until I decided to strip the gloss coat off and hit the whole upper surface with neutral gray. Then I decided I wanted a slightly lighter gray so I used medium gray instead. Viola it turned out the be the color I was looking for. It has a bluish tinge. I’m still gonna leave the prop spinners the ocean gray because it seems to give it more ”pop”
lawdog114Nice!....glad your canopy fit well. Mine was horrendous, therefore, it was probably operator error....lol.
With you Joe? Most assuredly a woefullly defective part. Wasn’t real impressed with the eduard masks for this one. We’ll see what happens when the masks come off
"Can you fly this plane and land it?...Surely you can't be serious....I am serious, and don't call me Shirley"
GameraHmm, going to have to check out Stynylrez primer myself.
I like it for canopies and interior stuff, but I'm not completely sold on areas where heavy masking is needed. I did a test with identical model parts. One with the Home shades one with Stynylrez and used the same model master acrylic. I let them cure and used Tamiya tape. I got some liftoff on the Stynylrez but none on the homeshades. Just don't like that the homeshades etches the clear plastic so if you get some bleeding your screwed. I can get the stynylrez excess off with a toothpick
She's coming along great so far!
Hmm, going to have to check out Stynylrez primer myself.
Here are the landing gear assemblies. The darker shade is the natural color of the plastic plus the Stynylrez primer. As you can see it's pretty much the same shade. The preshading is done on the walmart homeshades primer. It's more a neutral gray than the Stynylrez.....wish they'd lighten their gray shade up

Now ready for the "fun" painting
Thanks everyone so far this has been a fantastic model to build. I’ve had very little problems Canopy fit well for me. I’m putting on my big boy pants as I’ve glued the canopy on before painting. That usually ends in disaster for me. Last night I completed and painted the landing gear assembly and attached the wings to the fuselage. I’m going to spray Stynylrez primer on the canopy before I hit it with my cheap Walmart primer. I like the color of the Walmart stuff but it etches the clear plastic Stynylrez does not. I’ll post some pics tonight
Robert, I dig it! Looking forward to this build. Ive never built a mosquito so I'll be watching.
Thanks,
John
This looks really good. I love those figures added.

Looks like you're off to a good start! Seems like there are a lot of Mosquitoes being built around here. I'm going to need to acquire one for my collection soon.
After the Tu-2s this build is like comfort food, so far the only screwups are ones of my own making. I seem to have a habit of using tamiya glue to add my fingerprints to all my builds. As you can see my stash is tamiya heavy. So far this has been a pleasure to build. Very little perfect plastic putty needed. I used the tamiya 2mm tape on the bomb stripes. It was a little wide for the size of the bombs but it was really nice to work with. Not up to lawdogs level but I'm happy with how the interior turned out.
