1/48 CA-13 Boomerang - One Final Detail!

Interesting subject and cool build. I'll confess that I had to look up what the CA-13 Boomerang was. It's a nice departure from the seemingly endless line of Corsairs, etc. :)

Wings. Nearly completed, the only thing of note being the missing fuel filler covers. Had fun with the fit considering there is nothing to provide positive location of the parts in this kit.

The other photo shows the improvements to the oil cooler outlet. I opened out the back of the part to give the hole more depth, did a little filling and reshaping, then added the divider.

Sorted out the carburetor and oil cooler intakes. The carb intake needed opening out before fitting the insert. Once the insert was in it needed a bit of filling and shaping to get the shape right, or as close as I could get it. The oil cooler intake was drilled out so there is now a hole for the air to go through. As I don't have a fancy scribing tool, I use a Stanley knife blade to repair the panel lines across the fuselage join. I make a shallow cut, then VERY carefully draw the point of the blade sideways along the cut to score out the line.

The fuselage needed a few modifications. The fuel filler cover was drilled out, and a fuel filler cap inserted from behind. Photo's show this particular aircraft was missing its fuel filler covers, and also its electrical socket cover, which has also been drilled out. The blue formation lights either side of the cockpit were filled and then redrilled. The lenses in the kit are clear, so once they had been fitted, a piece of aluminium foil was glued, shiny side towards the back of the lens, and once the aircraft has been painted, the lenses will be painted Tamiya clear blue. The curved plate at the rear of the cockpit either side has been thinned right down as far as I dare as it is supposed to be a sheet of aluminium, not a great big thick casting! The forward and bottom edges of the space for the cowl flaps got the same treatment. The most obvious change though is the 40 thou insert between the two fuselage halves. Now, not only is the cowl front circular rather than eliptical, but also the internal bulkheads fit. The more eagle eyed might spot I haven't attached anything to the inside of the cockpit sidewalls. That is because the instructions are wrong, and almost everything is attached to the fuselage frame, not the outer skin

Your method worked for me as well and it's simpler than what I described above. I suggest that Chris use your more straight forward steps. I just tried Postimage for the first time yesterday so I thank you for showing both Chris and me the easiest method.

It's not that difficult. I'll go over it with you tomorrow in a PM. Just not up to teaching tonight - just a bit tired. You, however, will get it quickly if I can explain it succinctly and with some pedantic clarity. Not to worry, it's really pretty simple.

I can only view your image when I click on the URL you posted. I've just been experimenting with Postimage and I am not sure why your image didn't appear on the thread. It seems like a decent image hosting site. Can you think of any reason why, for me, your image's address and not the image itself is what I see?

In any case this looks to be an interesting thread that I'll check on from time-to-time.

Edit: Perhaps you wanted us to go to the pictures on Postimage and open them up for ourselves? I still think it would be easy for you to post them in your thread. Like this:
