1/14/18 Revell 1/48 B-17G Flying Fortress Completed

This is my previous build of a Monogram B-17G Visible Flying Fortress.

Cool Toshi!should be a fun  kit to build! 

 I'm still "plodding" along on the P-61 , and you get this beast ? Man I'm jealous !

I will be following along. I built one of these back in 1982 so it will be a "trip down memory lane" . Nice that it came with Sheps diorama booklet.

P.S.   I will be waiting to see some WIP pictures of that  Rib eye !

Hey Toshi! I did the Chow Hound quite awhile back and it was a really fun kit. You'll have a good time building it! Lotsa seams to fill, get out the putty. I did miss a few. Have fun, always watching!

I’ll definitely look forward to the WIP pics you will have.  As for; “This Beast”, it’s going to take a while as I must take Mrs. Toshi to Cleveland University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center for her Proton Radiation treatment daily.  

It‘s five days a week, for six weeks.  We’re half way there.  And she’s doing very well if you ask me.  She’s just loosing a lot of hair.  We’re both going to go bald soon.  lol! 

You’re a lucky kid back in 1982 to be able to afford one.  Back in 1976 I remember seeing these in College Pharmacy (Yes, back in the day pharmacies used to carry all kinds of stuff) a mom and pop runned store.

I used to drool over this kit wanting to build one.  lol!  Alas, I couldn’t afford one.  It cost twenty dollars back then. That was a lot of money in ‘76 for a model kit.  

I was impressed that they did include “Shep’s” ole insert diorama booklet in the kit.

OOOO another cool project Toshi. 

We seem to have the same tastes in modeling and your builds are always an inspiration to me . However at my slow pace I keep running way behind you and I'll never catch up. I'm doing one you built about 5 builds ago.

We would save our yard cleaning monies and have enough to buy the very expensive Monogram 1/48 kits that sold for anywhere from $3.00-$4.00.  Remember those days Uncle Jay Jay?  One of my favorite kits was the Corsair with the foldable wings that I continuously broke.  lol!  

There was one kit that we used to ogle over for is this very kit.  The Monogram B-17G Flying Fortress.  How I wanted that kit so bad.  But it was just too expensive at or between $20.00-$25.00.  Plus my dad would of killed me if I came home from College Pharmacy With a model costing so much.

I’ve had a hint that we always have the same taste in models. But your words are too kind.  I‘ve seen your B-26 Marauder and that Build was stupendous.  May I ask, what build are you on now that I built five builds ago?

Last night on 11/15/17, Mrs. Toshi really took care of my modeling needs.  She took me to Hobby Lobby and got me this kit.  Then she also got me a set of brushes, some Model Master paints, and Tamiya Weatherine Master C set.

Then this beautiful woman with a heart of gold took me to Outback Steak House.  I had a Rib Eye Steak Rare and Mrs. Toshi got herself a medium well delicious oven roasted Prime Rib.  

Last week she ordered a Tamiya 1/48 Ki-61.  This kit has been recommended by M. Brindos and Model Maniac!  I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving Holiday!!!

This will be a fun and easier build for you after the visable one last time. Since I just picked up the Academy 1/72 B-17E Pacific Theatre kit, will be watching to see what the differences are.  Interesting bit on Academy issue kit, includes decals for a Japanese captured bird.

Prime rib, your lifemate is a lady after my own heart

Since you did the Invisable B-17 in natural metal finish, will you be doing this one in Olive Drab?  I have both kits and was thinking of doing the Invisable in OD and this kit in NM.  Regardless, I'll be looking forward to watching your progress.  Thanks for sharing!!!

I wanted a B17 and B24 but in a smaller scale so I went with the new tooled 1/72 Revell Pro Modeler  B-17G (can also be done as an F variant) and Minicraft 1/72 B-24J. Both have excellent details and are a a bit smaller saving some display space.

Since Hobby Lobby was closer, and I’ve never made Revell/Monogram B-17G I figured this was the best kit for the present.  This will be definately fun!

Boy you are really churning out the kits! Keep up the great work that is so inspiring.  I remember College Pharmacy in the McCully area too.  It was this kind of dark, strange, cluttered  store with models in the window.  We liked it because they didn't add sales tax.  Their selection of kits was small, but good.

I bought the Monogram B-36 for fifteen bucks from them, which was like five weeks of allowance.  My arm was too short to go around the box, so it was a bear riding my bicycle back to Kaimuki with one hand on the handlebar and the other struggling to keep the big box from sliding out of my grip!

I never bought the B-17 until one showed up from an estate sale a few years ago.  It was the original issue box, and had the cool Shep Paine diorama sheet inside, plus what looks like a fresh decal sheet.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your build!

Across the street was another Chinese Restaurant called Golden Duck.  I was  told by my Mrs. Toshi during her last visit that these places do not exist anymore.  Times change, places change, and people’s faces change but memories do not. 

I lived in the McCully area, we lived on Date street right next to Lunalilo Elementary School of which I attended.  My family lived on Date street for over thirty years.  I went to Washington Intermediate School and then it was off to McKinley High School.  You’re a lucky young man to be able to work and save enough money to by that B-36.  Not to mention that was a cool kit to build.  

Estate sales are always really neat.  You just never now what you’ll find in a place like that.  It seems like you scored a big one on the B-17G Flying Fortress on that purchase. Especially since it was an original.  Real G, I want to thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart for such fond and joyous memories from back in the day.  Now I want to go back home.  I haven’t visited since 1999.
