1/48 Revell B-24D Fuselage Closed

That has to be a big one when finished.  I've seen the kit several times at the LHS, but opted for the smaller 1/72 Minicraft kit.  My rule is nothing can be bigger then my 1/48 Herc.  I'm sure it's very close to that size, the Herc has a two foot wing span.

Looking forward to this one, I love the B-24 and in your capable hands it will be a show stopper

I've had the Monogram "J" in my stash for several years .. I really don't know where I'd display it but I really want to build it anyway even if I have to give it away or trash it.

I'll be following along with great interest.

I'm looking foward to whatever you have in mind!  One of my favorite aircraft and one day I hope to do it some justice in 1:48 scale.

I hope this build will be entertaining and I truly hope I can do it justice.

I will be constructing as a cut away project.

I envy you. Built the original monogram boxing as a kid, been wanting to do it again but would need to take 1 year off from life to make it enjoyable. I want to do all the monogram 4 engine bombers eventually...

Been a while hasn't it....

Must be about time that I show some progress.  

First up is to play with the fuselage.  Had to try to figure out first where the cuts would have to be.  

The next step is to remove the interior detail from the fuselage interior.

Now the fun begins.

The interior begins with the addition of styrene strips to simulate the interior smaller vertical framing and the horizontal stringers.

This is the first part of this.  

Next up will be to begin the deconstruction and construction of the details.

Part two of the update.

Beginning working on the kit details was to remove them.

This is what the kit has.

Then the reconstruction began.  First up is a little work on the cockpit. 

Looking at the seat there is something missing.  On the right is the kit seat and on the right my version.

Some additional of what little I have accomplished.

I did also play a bit with the wing area as this section will be visible.

Beginning with the inner space between the wings.

And then moving on to some of the smaller details, bounced around quite a bit at this point.

I also began to construct the radio set.

More updates hopefully soon.

Gorgeous work so far! I did something similar to their B-26 a few years back. But it is so hard to see most of that detail once the fuselage is closed and all the clear parts in place.

Great scratchbuilding!  I haven't seen such detailing on a Monogram airplane kit since that doctor in Brazil, I think it was, built his Catalina.  I love the seats you built!

Hi Fightnjoe, your build looks incredible so far, amazing detail.  This is the kind of detail I really like to do, too.  Unfortunately, it's also the reason it takes me two years, or longer, to complete a build, and that's on the smaller aircraft (1/48) like an SBD 5 (my current project), P-40N or TBM-3.  I have a couple of eachc B-24s, B17s and B-29s in my stash and really want ot detail them like this, but kind of afraid to get started on one because I know it'll be very long build.  

But watching your progress is motivating.  Great work and thanks for posting.  I'll be following this closely.

Looking at what bits you had added to the interior reminded me of a tale about the C-130 Hercules. There against the interior ariframe is only one parachute, and one fire axe. The person who gets the fire axe gets the parachute.
