The Corsair is a big plane and the 109 is tiny in comparison to most

If you've ever seen a real Corsair up close, they're massive. P-47 Thunderbolts, too. Compaired to a Corsair, a P-51 or, as you illustrated, a Bf-109 looks tiny.

And the Bf-109 was a fairly small aircraft as well. One of it's issues was as the war went on it was harder to upgrade due to the small airframe.

It really is that the Corsair is a big plane.  The P-47 is very big too.

Not sure how to get the pic to show up in the post, but an Me-109 is 29' long with a 33' wingspan. A Corsair is 34.5' long with a 41' wingspan.

That's about 5 feet difference in length, and 8 feet in wingspan, or at scale, 1.25" difference in length and 2" in wingspan.

That's about what that looks like in that pic.

I'm adding an image to show the size difference.

I haven't actually measured the airframe, but it seems about right. I did measure the engine, and that was pretty close.

An F4U-1a was 414.15" from the tip of the spinner to the end of the tail, which is about 8.63" at scale. The wingspan was 491.7 inches, or approx 10.24" at scale. Is yours around that size?

1/48 scale Tamiya F4U-1A size

So I purchased and built this kit:

Model Number TM61070

https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Models-Vought-F4U-1A-Corsair/dp/B000LFQZ1W/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1516721814&sr=1-2&keywords=Tamiya+F4U-1+Corsair

And I noticed it was considerably bigger than my other 1/48 kits from Tamiya and other manufacturers. In fact I had to go back to the box several times after finishing the build to make sure it wasn't a 1/32 scale. It's a great kit and fantastically detailed. One of the best kits I've built to date, but the size is throwing me off. I want to have a Corsair in my collection but it just doesn't look right next to my other 1/48 scale aircraft.

So, do the other Tamiya Corsair versions use the same mold? And is the actual Corsair really that much bigger than other planes of that era? I don't have pictures at the moment but I can post them up to show the size difference when I get the chance. I would really like a Corsair that looks up to scale with the rest of my models.
