Fantastic job on that build!  You did great with the paint scheme.  And it looks very cool inflight.

Thank you! it was a fun build, I'd like to try it again some day.

I took it to a show this past weekend. This is the second show I've entered models. This one didn't place, but I had some others that did.

I was also able to get some feedback from one of the judges. Probably the best part of the show! He pointed out a few things I can do with my work that would have taken me a long time to see for myself. I know I can post things here for feedback, but pictures just aren't the same.

As far as purchases, I picked up an Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SBD-1 Dauntless; a Bandai Resistence X-Wing Fighter; and an Italiari AC-47 Spooky kit.

Nice work. I really like the last photo, it shows the subtle variation in paint density. It really gives it a nicely faded and worn look without being overpowering.

I must admit its a nice rendition of an F-51.  Looks "war-weary".  The photography in the sunlight is very good.  The only beef I have with the model are those Airfix deep panel lines, but that's not your fault.  Smile

(I compare it to my icon image).

Airfix F-51 Mustang

Hello, just want to share a kit I just completed. It's an Airfix F-51 Mustang (Kit A02047). It's a Korean War era fighter, from what I've read they were employed because the jets of that era did not quite have the range of the Mustang.

The kit is a nice one, it went together easily. Unlike other more recently tooled Airfix kits I've built, this one had some excess flash on a few parts. The landing gear struts also seemed to be warped and I could not get them straight without breaking them. So wheels up she goes! Which is fine with me, I like to see them flying. The kit comes with the option of placing the flaps down, which is always nice on a resting Mustang.

I tried black basing this one and painting with aluminum, but I can't say I'm that happy with the results. I think brush painting the wings and airbrushing the fuselage would give the effect I was looking for. The flaps are brush painted aluminum and I think it looks more like the painted wings on the real aircraft.

Airfix decals are always a pleasure to work with, no surprises there.

For weathering I did a very light wash with brown and black watercolor paints, after drying removed what I wanted with a damp Qtip. A touch of pastels for exhaust stains and a bit of fading on the anti-glare black, and some wear with a silver pencil and a 2B pencil.

The paints are Model Master acrylics.

Thanks for looking, your critique is appreciated!
