Old Revell 1/72 Thud WIP (Finally Completed)

I'd like to ask you, what does the H stand for in WHIP?

I have the Trumpeter kit in stash, I wonder how does it compare to the kit you're building.

Lol auto correct. Sometimes I don’t proof read things and the computer has a mind of its own.

I have the Trumpy G and is a bit more detailed with recessed Panel lines. This scale is small enough that I just may do a couple more.

Cherry girl is on the decal sheet.  unfortunatley if you use that one you have to put a tarp over it if you take to any model shows.

I was wondering about that since they have a “no nudity” rule.

Shot the SEA camo. Polished the paint out with a 2800 pad which exposed the raised panel lines.

I still have to do some touchups here and there then Future the Thud in preparation for decals followed by weathering.

Got the bombs painted and weathered up including hand painting the yellow nose rings. Got them attached to the C/L MER.

Got the gears and outboard stations glued down. The mains still need another part attached and painted.

I will never use Print & Scale decals again. They are a PITA to work with, they curl up as they are removed from the backing paper and the carrier film is not clear but semi opaque making silvering a real problem. To remedy this issue, Future was brushed on the spot where the decal will go and immediately slid the decal over the wet Future, centering it and then brushing on more Future over the decal. This method gets rid of the silvering and makes the decals look like actual paint.

I have most of the decals on but still have more to apply. This is a very slow process due to the decals curling up and just being stubborn to apply.

I finally completed my little Thud and Hanoi Special is ready to go "Downtown". I took  pictures of the dot weathering steps but somehow got them deleted by mistake from my camera so here are the completed views:

The dot filter helped in adding tonal changes to the paint making it look weathered.

I made my own blue formation lights using metal clothing pins and painting the heads in clear blue located under the rudder 

and up front. Notice the double Mig 17 kill marks.

Cluster bombs on the outboard stations

and 750 pounders on the CL pylon.

The molded landing lights were drilled out and replaced with gemstones from Hobby Lobby. 

The base is pine, stained and the tarmac is made from thin cardboard squares glued with Elmers then painted in varius grey Craft paints. The joint lines were left a tad wide then filled in with an old siringe with black artist oil paint.

Greta looking little Thud Ernie.  I always look forward to your W.I.P's partly because of the valuable tips therein ie. fabric pins and gems for lights etc. TY for freely giving all the info.

Beautiful job on that F-105 I’m sorry I missed the wip it’s been getting cool in the Miami area . I been out side enjoying the weather before it warms up again.

Thanks Crown. Yea it’s cool up here in Central Fl too, low 40s this morning so I think I’ll head over to Home Depot to load up my Tundra with mulch to refresh the front landscape.
