LOL! I did the same thing. Hey....look on the bright side...it did actually help the overall look.
Monogram/ Revell's old car models are just as bad. Terrible fit, horrible flash....everything.

mustang1989 Turned out quite well. Man you aint kiddin' about the old Monogram kits being a challenge. I built the Monogram Dauntless a few years back and it took nearly a dang miracle for that thing to turn out even halfway the way I'd hoped.

Yeah, when I built my Dauntless as an Army A-24, I drilled out the holes in the dive flaps for more authenticity. Like 72 holes drilled out with a pin vice. When I put the flaps on, none of the holes lined up.
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
...from Frank's Flugzeugwerke. This time a VNAF T-28D. I built it pretty much out-of-the-box, except for aftermarket resin wheels. The little bicycle wheels that come in the kit are pretty worthless. After construction, I primed the kit with Alclad Gray Microfiller Primer, then pre-shaded with MM flat black enamel. The overall topside color is MM neutral gray and the underside is MM insignia white as is the landing gear and wheel wells. The cockpit is also neutral gray and the seats are O.D. The instrument panel and switch panels are MM flat black with knobs picked out with red and yellow and silver. Of course you can barely see the interior through that old Monogram distorted clear canopy. Just like on my T-28A, the wing walk areas are MM flat black rather than the kit decals. The marking are from AOA, their T-28 decal series. These decals are very delicate and require lots of patience when being applied. I needed lots of vinegar to float the decals on and still ended up with a couple of decals all folded up on themselves. All of the ordinance is from the kit. I didn't know what to do with the napalm cannisters so they are white like the gun pods. I picked out the panel lines with Tamiya panel line enamel. These sixty year old kits are hard to build since they are from Monogram's "moving parts" era. But they are great for learning and practicing new techniques. Since I've gotten back into the hobby, I've built six old Monogram kits. Anyway, here's some pictures of the finished kit:
