1/48 Tamiya F4F-4 Complete

Last one of the year!

Well, this one was moving along pretty nicely and the last thing to do was remove the canopy and the masks so I could display in the open position.  In pulling it off I cracked it right down the middle...argh.  I've got the two sides tacked on for now until I can find a replcement.  Had a tough time with the decals as they cracked and tore easily.  This is my first blackbased model and I can see I'll need to lighten the color coat as this looks a little dark to me.  I did some random mix of yellow ochre and white oil dots and blended.  Need to work more on the blending but I like the affect

.

Black based the cockpit as well and used airscale instruments.

Thanks,

John

I bet your heart sank when you felt it break.  But, she’s awfully pretty!

Thanks MM. A few choice words came out for sure.   Experimental kit in the end so I'm not too bent out if shape.

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the kind words gold hammer.  Pretty nice little kit.  Mind those decals.  I had  a bit of a wing to fuselage fit on trailing edge side.

Thanks,

John

Got AM decals to do either Thatch's or McClousky's bird at Midway, both from VF 3.

Thanks for the heads up on the fit issue.

Nice job! I swear by black basing. One does need to lighten the base color though. I will use the correct color then paint the non panel line areas a little lighter. It takes a few tries to get what you like but once you get it you'll probably always ues it.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Thanks MC. I'll keep working on it  I've got a 1/144 ec-121r I blackbased and have 2 of the 4 sea camo colors down.

Thanks John.  Nice little affordable tamiya kit.

Thanks,

John
