Man, that is a great video! I love watching ANYTHING about flying, especially when it's true-life stuff like this! Thanks for posting it.

Truly enjoyed that short. The back story is amazing and proves "it's a small world".

As model builders stories like that are invaluable and are proof of " one off" or "impossible" acts, missions or machines actually exsisted and performed. Thank you for posting.

we're modelers it's what we do

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

BrandonK...thanks, mate.  I've seen this before.  And it's just as amazing today as when I first saw it.  Just astounding.

Thanks, mate.  Everyone should watch this.  It's living history.  And sadly...soon...almost all these amazing men will be gone.  Without these kinds of films...ALL their stories....their experiences....their thoughts.....will be gone.  And we'll all be the poorer for it.

I loved listening to my Grandpa...my dad's father...a SeeBee...drove LST's and LCM's island hopping through the Pacific trying to beat the Japanese....or my mum's dad, flew B-17's and B-24's as a pilot over Europe, fighting fighters and flak.  Their voices are now stilled.  And that hurts my heart.  Great men.  Humble men.  Men...to this day....I look up to.

Cheers, LeeTree

I watched the video over on YouTube so I could watch it full screen. I wish I had film/video of my dad when he flew back then. Great stuff. Thanks so much for sharing.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

That was a very nice story indeed!  And the production of the movie blows any History Channel program away.

Fighter pilots are considered daring, but they can fight back.  Recon pilots who go into enemy territory unarmed are the ones with the truly big ones.

That is such a cool Spitfire, I think I'm gonna put together the bits to build that bird. Love that thing in blue.

OMG and WOW!!! That was incredible...insane bravery to fly alone over Germany taking photos and then doing numerous passes just to be sure he had the targets captured?! Wow, so fortunate to have survived all thos alne run without any weapons for defense, just incase Gerry did come after you.

Seems he loved the Spitfire...was/still is today a beautiful bird.

Thanks for sharing Smile
