Finished--Hobby Boss 1/48 P-38 Bare Metal Foil
Posted by JohnnyK on Monday, April 1, 2019 5:05 PM

Well, it took a while, but I am finally finished. The Hobby Boss is an easy to assemble P-38. Everything fit and no alignment issues. The only thing wrong with the kit is the lack of landing lights and boring decals. It took a while to do the Foil due to a lot of 3D curves and numerous small panels. But, I think the the results were the effort.

Looks really good! I really like the subtle variations in the panels in the BMF

Johnny, I've seen a number of BMF aircraft and some win and some lose. Some times it's just a limitation in the foil or the imagination of the modeler, but this sir goes in the "win" column. Very good job around the canopy! All around solid build with some nice add ons.

Very sweet little Lightning!! =]

I agree all around. The build is very nice and the BMF is excellent, especially the canopy. Well done.

Just a few additionl photos. I think that these highlight the quality of the BMF better than the original photos.

Well done! You’ve nailed the foiling. I just noticed that it’s void the anti glare paint on the engine nacelles. Usually half was painted black or OD that faces the pilot. Perhaps this plane didn’t have them. I only mention it because of the NMF lightning I did last year called for them. Again..gorgeous work.

Looks great.  My patience (or lack of)with bare metal foil would never allow that.

Thanks,

John

Hobby Boss did a really nice job with the canopy. Very clear plastic and a nice tight fit with the fuselage. In fact, I didn't even need to glue the canopy to the fuselage. It just snapped into place! The Eduard paint masks made painting the canopy easy.

Fine build!

As others have said, the foil job is excellent!

If I ever get around to my P47M I may attempt to use that stuff.
