Thank you eagles90!  It was through your kindness that Ezra and I were able to share and complete the last two kits together.  I thank you for that as well as your continued support.  Mrs. Toshi starts physical therapy this week.

First, Toshi, GREAT NEWS!  My dad has been fighting a cancer called "carcinoid syndrom" for a few years now, and just recently had a nice sized chunk of his liver and colon removed, and is in this experimental group, and it seems to be working, as the various little tumors are shrinking.  

 

Now, onto my original comment when I saw a 1/72 build thread from you....."that's a little small for you, isn't it?!" Lol

I love that you are building with your grandson!  Even at 2-3 years old, it is great to help develop those fine motor skills!  I have started building with my son (he is turning 11 in July) after doing a group build with his cub scout pack (I am the assistant Cubmaster).  He has recently crossed over to ScoutsBSA (boyscouts) so he now has fun adventures at least once a month, and merit badges that he is working on, so the model building together is really a rainy weather thing.

 

I suggested to him that we build two of the same kit together, so he chose Hasegawa's Osprey "egg Plane".  

 

I submitted a photo and small blurb to FSM of our cub scout group build, and was told by Elizabeth Nash that it should be in the September issue!  My scouts will be so excited!

Lol, yes!  1/72 is way too small for me lol.  It was in actuality a build for Ezra.  It was a gift from eagles90’s.  Lol.  So far Ezra worked on everything except the painting and masking of the “Hinomaru”. 

As for the egg plane and the September article, CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done.  You and your son as well as your family, especially your dad will cherish this moment in time.  Make sure dad gets his own signed copy by the both of you.

To my fellow forum members,

I appolagize for my absence during this time, much has happened.  Good news!  Mrs. Toshi is cancer free!!!  She is now doing physical therapy.  Ezra on the other hand has moved to Columbus a three hour drive away.  We see/have him for one week and he goes back to Columbus for two weeks.  Then he returns for another week.

So seeing him less is difficult yet emotions must be in check.  Now that summer is officially started, swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities with Ezra has been planned.  This includes the building of kits.  

Below is the “Hinomaru” masks.  I’ve never done this technique so if you have some input, it’s greatly appreciated.  I’ve been waiting for these masks for sometime, I did not know it was being shipped via Serbia.  See the stamps on the envelope. 

I want to thank you all for the prayers and support you’re all great and fantastic forum family group.

Sir, that is one funny story.  Mrs. Toshi liked the part in that you placed “Mum” hairpiece next to a bowl of milk and everyone tried to pet it.  Lol!  I’m very sorry to hear of your mothers passing but she fought the good fight! Thank you for sharing that story, you’re a rascal!  Lol!

Ezra returns this evening, he was supposed to be here on Tuesday but his mom had other plans for him.  I’ll probably work on the “George” with Ezra over the next several days.  Until then, take care my friend.

My best to Mrs Toshi. My mum had cancer and I can remember all too well what she went through with the treatment. It does seem strange to fight one poison with another but it does actually show how tough our frail bodies can be both physically and mentally.

The Health service here in the UK looked after my mum really well at St James University Hospital, actually always referred to as "Jimmy's".

This will make you laugh and you should share with Mrs Toshi as laughter is the best medicine. Mum lost her hair as happens with this treatment and the NHS has a range of wigs or "hairpieces" in lots of styles and colours that patients can choose from. Mum chose one that was the same as her own hair colour and style at the time and when she put it on properly you just couldn't tell at all!

I was with my mum and dad at one treatment cycle at Jimmy's and the NHS wig man came round. I was curious and so went up and was looking at all the stuff he had. I told him just as a joke that I was looking for a new one for my mum. When he asked why I told him that my Army Horse had eaten it while she was visiting the regiment for a function. He gave me another one.

She was given the all clear, but sadly it came back and was just too aggressive and she finally passed.... By this time I had accumulated 5 wigs with "The Horse Has munched it again!!"

Mum was initially mad with me, but eventually saw the funny side and didn't half laugh when I put one on the floor with a bowl of milk next to it and watched as all her visitors avoided stepping on it and tried to pet it.

boy! Did I have some fun with those things!

Now, this George is looking good, Toshi and now is the time to start learning patience. It's not a rush at all, but a nice steady progress and planning. You are going to be figuring out a new skill with the masks and you should start considering where they should actually go on the aircraft. No need to actually start drawing or marking anything, but just think about it some tamiya masking tape will also be useful. This will help against overspray etc.

You will build up a range of colours for different nations. Vallejo's sets are great for this!

Here are a few photo’s, six actually of the “George”.  Thank you eagles90 for this kit!  Ezra won’t be here until Tuesday, and I’ll just prep a few things.  The decal sheet is shot, so I purchased masks for the “Hinomaru”.  

“snapdragonxxx” was nice enough to send me a link to Maketar for the masks.  I’ve never utilized masks before, this will be a first so I’ll be requsting that FSM Forum members stop by and give some insight on my “Hinomaru” masks.  Thank you all for everything.

His focus is much better now, it’s about or between a five to ten minute window.  Other than that, he’s really good as he is at the age where you get told why?  Why? Lol!

No problems, Toshi. Japanese insignia is probably the easiest to do.

while they are in the post, order some Vallejo Model air RAL 3000 Red. I forget the number at the moment.

Keep an eye on my shinden build as that is where I will put the insignia mask post.

Nearly forgot.... If you want to do the insignia with the white outer circle like I am going to do, then you want Insignia White too!

This method may take a little longer than decals, but technique wise is much simpler and once you learn the ins and outs looks fantastic!

 

This technique I’ve never tried, as I could get the decals to look almost like the real thing.  Now with your guidance of which I’m going to be indebted to you 10x’s over, I can make it the real thing with the masks.  I hope?  Lol!  I really hope I can make it look fantastic.

As you know by now, my grandson Ezra does uses the airbrush and loves to operate it.  That, I feel is where his strongest strength is and he shows that at this early age (He’ll be 3 in July)at a very intuitive dynamic.  The assembling part of the kit from the schematic drawing is too complicated at this time for him.  But when I am taking over the assembling parts, he builds with my tutelage and does a awesome job on it especially when he utilizes Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.  I’ll be finishing most of the assembly as Ezra has gone home.  He’ll come back on Tuesday.  I just can’t wait to here the words “Papa” from his mouth!

Once again sir (snapdragonxxx) I greatly appreciate your generosity.  I’m most humbled!  I’ll probably be working on the the kit after Mrs. Toshi wakes up as she just had her chemo therapy done yesterday, this procedure makes her very ill and tired.  That will be a “My day” or to correct myself, a “Mr. Toshi day”.  I’ll be watching “Predator vs Alien” and “Prometheus” while doing my “George” build.  Thank you for stopping by and giving Ezra and I the support needed!
