1/48 Academy (Hobbycraft 1990's) Bf-109E-3

I added rivet detail to this as there was none, Decals are from Eduard's Bf-109E-3 Profipack.

3./JG 51, Mannheim-Sandhofen, Winter 1939-1940

This camouflage scheme was introduced at the end of 1939, during 'Sitzkrieg' and during the defence of Germany against the first retaliatory raids by the RAF.
An interesting feature on this aircraft is the very large Balkenkreuz.
The Totenhand marking below the cockpit is the 3./JG 51 unit insignia, while the Kitzbuheler Gams markings, which was used by 1./JG 51, was a reminder of the influx of Austrian pilots to the unit.

Camo is painted with Gunze lacquer and acrylic, also used Tamiya acrylic, Vallejo metal colour, Flory dark dirt wash and Vallejo matte varnish.

Great looking build from a grunge era kit :).  Usually we see Tamiya kits etc.  Nicely done.  I dig the Totenhand.

Thanks,

John

Excellent build and photography!  Your model does not betray it’s origins.

I have a Hobbycraft Avia S.199 in the “maybe someday” pile.

Great scheme and build. The early 109 schemes are some of the sharpest looking

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
