I use XF-76 Tamiya for this color. AK Interactive Real Colors makes it now too.

The color is called Ame-iro. It has a green caramel look to it. The tamiya color is very close. Or Greg Springer who is a guru with Japanese colors has this custom mix for tamiya

100 parts XF14 IJA Gray

40 parts XG49 Khaki

3 parts XF53 Neutral Grey

3 parts XF2 White XF2

2 parts XF7 Red XF7

D3A1 Val Paints

Hey there!

I've recently gotten back into modeling after a VERY long hiatus and I decided to start back with a Hasegawa 1/48 D3A1 "Val", and paint it in the Pearl Harbor/Indian Ocean paint scheme.  Now, for the longest time, I had thought Vals were white with black cowling, but after doing a little research, the appropriate color was a light grey, namely the IJN Green-Grey from Tamiya, at least for the underside of the later olive green/grey the Vals sported post-Ceylon.  Is that correct for the late '41/early '42 Vals, though?  Or do I use a lighter shade of grey?
