You should give foiling a try. I would suggest that your first attempt should be on a P-47. It has very simple shapes.

Stunning metal finish! Great job! That's one thing I will not be able to do. I'm so clumsy working on my models and I'm sure I will not be be able to apply those foils without folds or wrinkles.

This is my secret tool for appling foil. Just a little does the trick.

Greg

That looks great. Yes

How did you achieve the various shades and finishes? (I've never worked with BMF)

I use two different colors of BMF, Matt Aluminum and Chrome. Ninety percent of the foiled panels are Aluminum. I use Chrome foil to provide visual interest. Also, BMF has a subtle grain to it. The foil has a slightly different color when turned 90 degrees. I also use 0000 steel wool on certain panels to enhance the grain.

This is the wing of a B-24. The majority of the panels are Matt Aluminum. I noted the panels that are foiled in Chrome. Also, it is easy to make rivets using a rivet wheel.

It would be difficult to achieve this subtle varity of colors using paint.

Well, this has been a long journey. I started this build in March 2018. The next month I put the kit on The Shelf Of Doom because I became feed up with the poor engineering of the model. In June, 2019, I decided to finish the kit. It took three months, and a number of sheets of Bare Metal Foil, to finish the kit. The WIP is here: cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/178237.aspx?page=1

Following are some photos of the finished build.
