                        Hello friends. Next up on the work bench is the Dornier Do 217E-5 in 1/48 scale from Monogram. Looks to be a nice kit with fine recessed panel lines and crisp molding. The clear parts are also very clear and well molded. Pretty typical of what they were releasing around this time.  The decals are showing signs of age so I bought a set of MonTex painting masks for all the numerals, letters, and insignias.

                        Hello friends.  The front office is done.  Each instrument bezel is hand painted while the actual gauges are from the 1/48 Dials and Gauges set from Mike Grant Decals.  After the decals were set, a drop of clear gloss wash dabbed to imitate glass covers. Time to close up the fuselage and attach the wings. So far, no real complaints.  The fuselage walls and instrument panel are very detailed and show just how well molded these kits were aside from one or two injector pin marks that needed cleaning.

                        Wow that office is stunning! I've done 2 of these they go together ok, if memory serves I had a small fit issue with the wierd wing mounting. I did a Koster 217N1 solid nose night fighter conversion that was a nightmare. Have you decided on a scheme yet?

                        I think I've experienced that same issue with the wing. There were also quite a few areas along the three connecting points of the fusalage that required some filler. But nothing a little patience and sanding couldn't overcome. Nothing decided as of yet.

                        A quick update. Fuselage is complete and wings are on. Up till now the engineering has been quite nice but there were a couple of what I consider to be minor flaws in the kits design. The fuselage is not your typical two piece affair. It was actually three longitudinal prices. This resulted in some gaps that required filling and re-scribing. The wings were also done in three pieces each with the third piece being the top outer half of the wing. This caused some strange gaps that require CA filler. Engines and landing gear come next.

                        This is looking good, Chad. I find myself using CA glue more and more. Espesially on small seams. You can add baking soda to make a filler also. Haven't tried that yet though.
