Got the PE flaps on order. I will post back up when I get the flaps finished and installed. Be well!
Redman, just note that with PE everything is 2 dimensional. Even the forked actuators that's open and close the flaps. It's the one draw back behind the set.

Thanks for all the nice words guys! Unfortunately i think I'm gonna fork over the insane $20 for the Eduard photo etch flaps. I think I only paid $15 for this Dauntless kit at a show. bvallot you are right though. The flaps ARE the Dauntless. Plus the photo etch flaps..They look real fun to put together too ...eh hum.
Wow, excellent Dauntless!

Shipwreck lawdog114 My next project is the Accurate Minatures kit. It's getting eduard flaps as well. Do you have acess to the AM flaps or are you counting on the hard to find Hasegawa flaps to fit?

I had similar thoughts about a year ago when considering another Dauntless. I favor the AccuMin kit over the Hasegawa in terms of accuracy in shape and cockpit detail and what not, but you can't overlook the flaps. I mean the flaps ARE the Dauntless. I ended up making mine from scratch on my first go around with the AccuMin kit but found that the way I built up the ribbing and trusses that form the structure of the flap was causing my plastic to bow which was pulling apart my actuators that I painstakingly made...individually...to great lengths...it was a real b!tch. SO, I considered an alternative as well. If both flaps are deployed, then I don't suppose having a different set on your Dauntless is going to make much difference, but to have the top set down I do believe will be notable. I can't recall by how much...I'll have to go back and double check what I measured out.
That said--Redman, you're doing a great job making this Dauntless look the part. Very sharp. Very nice job on the weathering as well. I hope you have more to share. =]
Beautiful Duantless.
Interesting painting technique, thanks for sharing the WIP pics on that.

Excellent! My next project is the Accurate Minatures kit. It's getting eduard flaps as well. Thank you for sharing your work.
......and I like the styrofoam paint block. Cool idea.

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing the details on the paintwork. The weathering looks just right.
Incredible build! I'm working my way through the same kit right now and if mine comes out half as good as yours I will be thrilled. I did splurge on the PE set (everything but the #$%^ airbrakes), so I'll probably be done sometime around 2022.

Looks amazing!
Looks fantastic.
Just need to build the photo etch flaps, and rig the antenna wire.
Thanks guys.

-Several final light, light coats of the Navy Blue Gray (90% thinner 10% paint)
-Tamiya Red Brown for "dirt" streaks
For the bottom I used:
-Model Masters Acrylic: Light Gray FS36495 for the base.
-Tamiya: Dark Grey XF-24 for the shadows. (90% thinner 10% paint)
-Tamiya: White for the highlights. (90% thinner 10% paint)
-Several final light, light coats of the Light Gray (90% thinner 10% paint)
Nice paint job. I have the AM version of this kit. I too am interested in what paints you used.
Nice. I just got this kit last week (blame midway) what paint/colors did you use?
Thanks,
1/48 Hasegawa building this one out of the box no aftermarket goodies, well almost. Eduard PE dive brake flaps are in order....more to come!
