Got the PE flaps on order.  I will post back up when I get the flaps finished and installed. Be well!

Redman, just note that with PE everything is 2 dimensional. Even the forked actuators that's open and close the flaps. It's the one draw back behind the set.

Thanks for all the nice words guys! Unfortunately i think I'm gonna fork over the insane $20 for the Eduard photo etch flaps. I think I only paid $15 for this Dauntless kit at a show. bvallot you are right though. The flaps ARE the Dauntless. Plus the photo etch flaps..They look real fun to put together too ...eh hum.

My next project is the Accurate Minatures kit.  It's getting eduard flaps as well.

Do you have acess to the AM flaps or are you counting on the hard to find Hasegawa flaps to fit?

I had similar thoughts about a year ago when considering another Dauntless. I favor the AccuMin kit over the Hasegawa in terms of accuracy in shape and cockpit detail and what not, but you can't overlook the flaps. I mean the flaps ARE the Dauntless. I ended up making mine from scratch on my first go around with the AccuMin kit but found that the way I built up the ribbing and trusses that form the structure of the flap was causing my plastic to bow which was pulling apart my actuators that I painstakingly made...individually...to great lengths...it was a real b!tch. SO, I considered an alternative as well. If both flaps are deployed, then I don't suppose having a different set on your Dauntless is going to make much difference, but to have the top set down I do believe will be notable. I can't recall by how much...I'll have to go back and double check what I measured out.

That said--Redman, you're doing a great job making this Dauntless look the part. Very sharp. Very nice job on the weathering as well. I hope you have more to share. =]

......and I like the styrofoam paint block.  Cool idea.

Beautiful work, and quite helpful for those of us just starting out, or getting back into the hobby. In the pics above, is that modelling clay on the cowling and behind the wing on the fuselage?

Incredible build!  I'm working my way through the same kit right now and if mine comes out half as good as yours I will be thrilled.  I did splurge on the PE set (everything but the #$%^ airbrakes), so I'll probably be done sometime around 2022.
