1/72 Airfix Harrier GR.1 - “Back in the day” WIP

So I've given the parts a good washing with dish soap and water since I will not be using any primer. What you see in the first picture is all I will be using to make this bird. Everything will be hand-painted without benefit of an airbrush, post shading, pre shading, chipping, or any other weathering techniques. I'm just going to build it using the same materials and techniques I would've used as a kid.

Well, this should be interesting. You're using far more than I had as a kid to build it. I had the testers square bottle paints, their brushes and if I was real lucky, a rattle can. I think you will make this look good.

Thank Johnny!  Glad to have you aboard.  I've started the interior and I must say the paints are not great but I guess I'm used to Model Color acryics so Im pretty spoiled.  I'm laying don pretty thin coats to avoid brush strokes but you get the inevitable air buble every now and then that ruins all your bruch work!    The spread of the paint leaves a bit to be desired.  It won't always stick to the surface eventough I've washed them thoroughly.  But a few coats is key for complete coverage.

Thanks Brandon!  Man, I remember those square bottles.  Kind of strange using the knife to remove parts and not the sprue cutters but I've got to make this authentic!

Thaks Joe!  Something different for sure.  I've already told myself that it won't be near as "pretty" as I'd like but thats totally ok.  Its the experience that fun!

Already cracked it open and started using it my friend!  I haven't used Humbrol solvent glue in probably 36 years but I'm finding it sets pretty rapidly and doesn't have near the odor it had when I used the blue Testors tubes back in the day! Of course, back then I applied directly from the tube but today I'm using a toothpick!

Ah, the Testers tube glue. Kinda like a big magic marker, there just anything that smells that way. Breath deep and enjoy the visions.
