1943Mike

Suberb as usual.

Just this month again looking around the modeling forums as I've been preoccupied for a while with other things. Great to know the quality building continues on this site with fine modeling skills on display such as those you possess Joe. It's always a delight to view your work.

Thanks Mike. Glad to see you back.

lawdog, I have a P-51D in paint right now. Not NMF but instead it's camouflaged. I'm using stencils for the national insignia a friend made on his Cricket machine. I like painting on the insignia much better that using decals. Since you use Montex masks, how do you keep from getting the thin edge of white around the insignia after you spray the blue? I've sprayed on the insignia on three models and this has been an issue on each one. Just curious to know how you get around this.

On this one I just made sure the blue completely covered the white, paying special attention to the outside edges. I use Tamiya paint cut with alcohol so it dries very fast.

Sorry I've been away. Work has been kicking my a$$ lately. I just got myself caught up to all of this. It's so nice I'll say it twice for you Joe, gorgeous. I knew it was going to be a homerun. =]

How'd you like the canopy? I think I meant to ask you about that before. How did it end up comparing to other kits in this scale?

Thanks Britt.  No canopy issues.  This is the best P-51 in 1/48.....by far.  Airfix a distant second.

There's Joe turnin' out another one of his "so good you could slap yo grandma" builds. You really do a good job on whatever you build.

This looks fantastic!  I have recently started a long term project I am calling 'Adversaries', with a line up of fighters from the 5  major players in Europe in WWII.  'Stang, Spit, Russian LA-5, BF 109, and need to add an Italian figerter to the bunch!  I can only hope my stang comes out this amazing!

One question, where did you source the pilot from?  I like to add the human element to my builds and am also collecting the pilots to go along with their "mounts"....

Thanks Justin. Sounds like a cool project. I'm not really a figure painter, but I have a handful of pilots I painted up a while ago and I use them for photography. If I remember correctly, this one is from the Tamiya pilot set that came with a Moto tug. I think he's technically a pacific pilot.

Great looking model. The paint job is very nice.

How did you make the base that the plane sits on?

Thanks Johnny.  One of the guys I build for regularly makes them and he gave me a few.  They are much better than anything I could muster up.

That's one commision build I think I'd have a hard time parting with. It looks really good, Joe.

Thanks for getting back with me on the foam from Eduard/Brassin re the wheel well masking/packing.

Thank you Greg....and your welcome.
