I can't remember the last time I started an aircraft it....what's it been?.....5 years??? I just haven't felt comfortable with my military painting and weathering skills until I wrapped my Arado 234 up late last year after that sat around for YEARS. Being in the automotive modeling realm over the last half decade and watching countless military painting videos as well as watching others on the forums has really given me the opportunity to hone my painting skills. So with all that being said....I guess it's high time that I broke out with an aircraft kit.
We'll be going with Tamiya's 1/48 Me-262 offering. Here's what's in the arsenal so far:

Yes I know that feeling . I'm going though that with airliners lol. That's a great kit ,I built one about 5 years ago.

Thanks for the comments everyone. After that last debacle with the Maverick....it's been nice to take a couple of weeks off from building. I mean... I DID have alot of fun with that car but it left me scratching my head lots of times trying to figure out the next moves with it. Building an aircraft again is gonna be a change of pace for me but one that I've been looking forward to for a while now.
Ok gang.....got the fuselage halves cut from the sprues so now it's clean up and test fitting of the resin parts into the fuselage.

I put this one together for the secret Santa build last year and loved every minute of it! It's such a great kit.

I've been working on this aircraft all friggin' week now. I've been busy getting rid of the interior detail/ ribbing from inside of the fuselage in order to fit the AM resin pieces in there. After accomplishing that and test fitting it's looking pretty good from about every angle so far.
Details removed:
The interior tub, landing gear bay side panels, and rear wall of the bay seem to fit well:
I test fitted the original rear wall in place to see how high it sat above the fuselage to ensure a proper wing to fuselage fit. Here's the OOB height.
and the height with the AM Aires resin piece fitted into place. Looks good from here:
So......I tried my luck with the wing test fit. I think I'm good with this:
Holy cow that's a lot of work. She's gonna look beautiful though when she's all painted up.
Be fun seeing what you do painting the resin. Never done it myself (except for a seat once). Pretty much baffled by the painting process.

Resin isn't hard to paint up at all Greg. Pretty much the same as plastic.
Alright folks. This aint a whole lot but this here is around 3 cumulative hours of work this week. One wall of the landing gear bay is finished. Now for the other wall.....

Even more impressive when I realized it was 1/48 and not 1/32

Been working on the other wall for the last few days and after finishing decided to deepen the effects on both some.
Interior looks like you haven't skipped a beat! I suppose you've decided to jump in the deep end with camouflage painting, haven't you? No doubt you'll nail it. I look forward to seeing your progress!

After 5 days worth of work here we are fellas. I'm really looking forward to putting the finishing touches on this and moving on to the cockpit.
Fantastic job Joe, details are sharp and pop really good. Very sharp looking 262.

The resin details painted and weathered up really nicely.
Painting raised details like the yellow tubes and blue tanks are a weak point of mine. I stuggle with the tidy brush stroke. I think a house painter would call it "cutting in", if you know what I mean.

Now that's got to be my all time favorite W.W.2 Aircraft, country not withstanding. She's just plain beautiful!
