I figured I'd share my journey with the monstrosity that has been consuming my life over the past month or so. Against my better judgement, I took on the task of building the HK 1/32 B-25 J. It's in the markings of "Apache Princess" from the 345th BG. My research revealed it was shot down by AA fire while trying to bomb an airfield and railyard on Formosa in May of 1945. The flight engineer was KIA, and the remainder of the crew were POW'd.
The guy I built it for supplied some extras, which included Master gun barrels, Brassin resin wheels, and the decals, which were made by Zotz. I added PE seat belts I had in the stash. Main stars and bars were painted on with Montex masks. The paint was AK Real Colors with alternating shades of OD 41 and faded OD. I was happy with the effect. This would have been a serious tail dragger, so I added 200 grams of Crossman BB's to the nose. I tried a new chipping technique by using liquid frisket on the cowls (baby steps). I was pleased with the effect. I intend to try it a bit more on the Zero I just started.
A few in progress pics.....
That's alot o' BB's

Thanks Mike
Mate, I was getting a little worried as I hadnt sighted any builds from you recently.
Now I understand why, fanatstic work as always.
Look foward to the next build.
I'm blown away by this stunning build. A true masterpiece. The guy buying it is lucky. Speaking of the gentleman purchasing it I hope he can pick it up locally. I can't imagine shipping that thing. I'm always impressed with the cockpit work and faded paint technique on your builds. I always liked hairspray or chipping medium for realistic chipping but the frisket worked well. Looking forward to seeing the Zero. My reference pictures show those things were chipped to hell and back.

Thanks Paul. Well, actually the reason I agreed to build it was because the wings are supposed to be detachable. Unfortunately once built they are tight and hard to remove without force. I can't risk breaking it. Now I have to find a box that's at least 25 by 25 inches. Same gentleman wanted a 1/32 B-17, but I politely turned it down.
Beautifully done !
Nick.
Most impressive. I'm going to reference these photos for weathering technique. Well done.
At 1/32 must be huge. Great looking model and base.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Looks great - well done. What did you use to glue the billion bbs?
Thanks,
John
Yikes! 1/32?! And I thought my P-38 was a big model.
No wonder that detail is so crisp. Nice job!
Nooooooooooooo
I think I will need to find another visual media to obsess over...
I will still look back at your previous builds for tips.
Take care.
Too big. Well done!

Mopar Madness Oh Lordy that's a beautiful bird!!
Well you knocked that one out of the park. As usual, superb effort all the way around.
As usual Lawdog, another abolutely marvelous and stunning build, .....and those windows, so crisp and clear!! Wish mine came out like that. (I assume it's masked off, painted and then Futured?).
Stay safe........Steve
Currently on the bench: On the bench: Airfix 1:24 Spitfire Mk IXc (17001) as Silver Spitfire G-IRTY, Revell 1:48 Bristol Beaufighter TF.X (03943)
Finished 2024: Tamiya 1:24 Ford Mustang GT4 (24354)
Lawdog what a stupendous build! That liquid friskett looks better than anything I've seen for chipping. Love the finished build followed by the wip pics. it must pain you to give it to the guy you're building it for. You have to be proud of this one!
In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
Gotta love the Apache Princess! What a fantastic looking B-25! As always, I admire your fading and shading work -- it gives the paintwork tremendous depth. Congrats. I haven't built up the courage yet to get serious with chipping beyond some silver pencil. Your liquid frisket results are convincing so I'll give it a shot at some point.
