Airfix 1/48 P-51D Jersey Jerk (Finished)
Posted by tempestjohnny on Friday, April 9, 2021 4:18 AM

Maj. Donald Strait. Leading ace of the 356th FG. 13.5 victories all but three flying the Mustang. Retired from the USAF in 1978 after 38 years as a Maj. Gen.

I'm building this kit OOB. When I decided to crack open the box I had planned on using one of my aftermarket decals for the 356th FG. But decided on the kit markings for Jersey Jerk.

Here is my progress so far.  I'm fairly happy with this kit. Only minor putty was required here and there. The interior detail is great with just a little detail painting. Which I'm glad because I have another 6 in the stash.

This is where I am at this point. Still have stencils to apply and final finish

Great work on the spinner.  I always like silver when some of the panels are highlighted.

Excellent work.  I recently finished the same Mustang.  Really enjoyable build.

Did the blue diamond decals give you fits?  Was probably the most challenging part of the kit.

not really. I did see that Airfix messed up one thing. The 2 Diamonds that are on the very bottom under the scoop should be turned 90 degrees. I fixed that on mine

Ahhh.  I wondered why they didn't fit properly.  Makes sense.  Nice catch.

Those spinners really caught my attention! I've heard many wonderful things about these Airfix P51 kits.

Thanks Chad

This is my first 48th scale of the new mold kit. I'm impressed.

I have built 6 of the new 72nd scale kit and love that one.

Ya TJ - this is just fantastic.  Beautiful job.  I'd have like to have seen those spinner decals on the sheet - very curious.

Thanks,

John

John each one was a separate piece. And the one that is nearest the prop is 4 pieces

The spinner was 3 nights of work. With the words. "Done leave it alone" being said

Outstanding job Johnny. That's a scheme you don't see too often. Thanks for sharing.
