Big Bad 'Wolf' - Monogram 1/48 Mosquito
Posted by gregbale on Thursday, September 16, 2021 2:58 PM

This is Monogram's venerable 1/48 Mossie done up as FB Mk. VI "Wolf" of 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron, 100 (Bomber Support) Group, flying from Bradwell Bay, Essex in late 1943.

According to Aeromaster's 48-552 "Mosquito Raiders V" sheet, the squadron flew in support of the Main Force Lancasters to counter the threat of German nightfighters. Wikipedia adds mention of intruder missions and 'Doodlebug'-tipping over the Channel and Southern England.

Beautiful work. That was one of my favorite kits as a kid. I believe it was the first multi-engine I successfully built. It hung proudly from the ceiling in my room.

Thanks, Gentlemen, I appreciate the kind words!

It occurred to me at one point that this may have been one of the only 'big' $1.99 (back then) classic a/c kits that Monogram did, that I didn't build as a kid. In fact...despite having grown up watching films like "633 Squadron" and "Mosquito Squadron"...I'd actually never built a Mossie before, in any scale. So, despite it's well-recorded shortcomings as a 'build any version' kit, the Mono (by then Revell, I think) had to be the one...and I had a grand time doing it. Big Smile

A lovely build of one of my favourite aircraft, Greg - I like that a lot.  And the grey "coach line" on the fuselage camo is a nice touch, too.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?
