I thought I would share my latest adventure in chipping. I recently completed this Hasegawa Ki-84 "Frank" which I did in the markings of a 85th Sentai machine. It was flown by 8 kill ace Misao Okubo in the summer of 1945.
The Hasegawa Ki-84 is fantastic, perhaps their most underrated kit. It's well detailed and goes together beautifully. The only gripe I have is the grommet system for attachment of the landing gears. You essentially shove them into those little black plasic things (like props) and hope they stand correctly. I see what they were trying to do to ease construction, but it's not very stable. It's the same deal for the drop tanks too, which did work a bit better. I ended up gluing them all in place.
I added an Ultracast seat, PE belts, wired the engine and gear legs. Paint was my own concoctions of Tamiya paints, basically a little of this and that. It's basically XF-58 Olive Green with a touch of XF-49 Khaki to brown it up a bit. The lower is XF-14 IJA grey. All markings were painted on using Maketar masks. Chipping was done with primarily the liquid frisket technique. I'm beginning to get the hang of it control-wise. I weathered it heavily with Ammo Mig washes.
I'm now working on Eduard's new Spitfire MK. IIa as a change of pace. I'll post pics of that soon.
A few in-progress pics.

Nice! Looks like you've mastered the chipping. Did my first one and... let's say I need more practice. I'm now looking for that kit.
Thanks,
John
Very convincing chipping LD!
