Thanks for all the new responses on my Scorpion.

I was perusing the FSM Newsletter that I got in my inbox this morning, and was quite surprised to see my build linked in there as well.

Very fine job on yoiur Scorpion.  Revell did an oops as they forgot the little winglets on the end of the tip tanks.  Every A/B/C received this recall at the factory after quite a few crashes, especially one at an airshow.

Correction: looking at the photos again, I do see the small winglets on the tip tanks.  I will have to look at that for my new repoped 2023 issue for my B model.

Yes, I did add those winglets to the tip tanks.  That was one of the first details I noted in researching this aircraft, that Monogram (Revell) missed those.

Beautiful job you have done here.  This is an old Monogram mold and you have really brought it to life.  The red color you used looks spot on.

Well, for not really liking the bird, looks like you made a silk purse out of a cows ear. Nice work! Beer Beer Beer

Ahoy Aggiman.  Early Jets are my favorite subjects and you did a super job on the Monogram Scorpion. Thanks for the photos.  I liked one photo so much I made it my Screensaver for the week.

Sure looks like a scorpion with that tail up in the air.  I had this one ages ago and sold it after test fitting.  Kudos for getting her done.

Careful, the Don may be listening...

Unless the fuel load was very low F-89's sat in a more level attitude.  The engines were known to hoover up stuff from the runway because of the low stance.

Well done Stephen.  I don't think the F-89 is bad looking but I'm totally biased because the box scale Revell kit was my first plastic model in 1955.  It could maybe do without the locomotive wheels, thoughCowboy

It is Revell from 2000 after the merger of 1986. There is a new reissue of 2023. This is based from the D/J of 1990.

My first build for the year was relatively stress-free.  It is a subject that I've never before built, and had in fact little interest in doing so since I find the aircraft to be rather ugly.

I'm pretty sure this kit began life as a Monogram mold, as it has many features that I find common among Monogram kits - decent detail in the cockpit and wheel wells, and relatively easy construction.

Paints are AK Interactive XTreme metals - matte aluminum, dark aluminum, and pale burned metal.  The red is Tamiya's lacquer flat red, black is Tamiya's lacquer flat black, and the white surrounding the canopy "glass" came from a paint pen.  I weathered lightly with Flory wash, AK Interactive weathering solutions like engine oil and exhaust stain, and Tamiya weathering pastels.

After my 6-month build of the USS Enterprise (Star Trek), I needed a quick and easy build.

Next up will be Tamiya's huge 1/32 F-15E Strike Eagle.
