Eglins flight line

I was stationed at Eglin during part of the time frame you listed. There were in fact A-10's and F-111's (They might have been gone by 1990?, but they had them just a few years earlier) They used tail desg. EG (33rd TFW F-15C/D) ET Mixed aircraft as you mentioned and AD (Armament Division). The F4's were I believe E's, The F-16's were A, C, and D's. There were also C-130 assigned there both standard and MC-130. There were also AC-130's down the raod at Hurbert and Duke fields. Hope this helps. During that time frame the only two squadrons operating the F-4E at Eglin AFB would be the 3247 TS and the 4485 TS (TAWC). The 4485 TS (TAWC) had the tail code OT. They were used to test weapons. Both the 3247 TS and 4485 TS (TAWC) were one of the last active units to retire their F-4 acft. The paint job you mentioned was called the "Hill Gray" scheme. You were at Eglin AFB long after I retired from the Air Force.

I wish I could be more specifc about what Im trying accomplish. I grew up a USAF Brat (later joined the Army to******the old man off [:) ) Im trying to buld a 1/48 model of all the aircraft from bases I lived at while my father was stationed there. We were at Eglin from 1990 to 94 and I remember driving around the perimeter track and seeing F-15's, F-16's F-4E's and I think WC-130's parked on the tarmack infront of the McKinnely (sp) Hanger. I cant remember if the F-4's had tail codes but they were decked out in the low visibility grey scheme (possibly 2tone) These are the aircraft Im intrested in

The 3246 Test Wing, 3247 Test Squadron, operated the F-4C, F-4D, and F-4E aircraft. The C was painted overall ADC gray. They did not carry any tail code markings. Their D's started off as ADC gray and later carried the SEA, Wraparound, and European 1 camouflage schemes. They had the tail code AD. Depending on the time frame the AD could be found painted white or black. The E's were painted in the SEA scheme and later went to the wraparound and European 1 scheme. They also had the tail code AD, again in white or black.

The 33 TFW operated only the F-4E, starting off with tail code ED in white. They became operational with 66 & 67 model acft. In 1970-71 they started receiving new 69 models direct from the factory (My acft was 69-260). On their deplayment for Linebacker, they had 66, 67 & 69 models. In 1978 their tail code changed to EG, and were painted white. Their acft wore the SEA paint scheme and none were painted in the wraparound as by then they had gone to the F-15.
