Looking for info about a particular F-101B Voodoo used by the Colorado State University in its Severe Storm Research Program... Black Eye [B)]

Contacted the Univ, but no-one could help. Same answer from the NSSL / NOAA... Dead [xx(]

The aircraft sports civilian registration and the CSU titles on the fuselage but I do not have any info about any possible markings on top or bottom of the wings...

Can anyone help??? Sad [:(]

Whaz up DJ,
Theres a pic of this bird in the Aerofax Minigraph 5 "McDonnell F-101B/F(No.0205) and in MMA "VOODOO".
From what I can see it looks to be plain jane. I am not sure if you have this info but here I go(stop me if you have heard thisBig Smile [:D]).
N-8234 (57-410)
It had some nose art of a ghost carried on both sides of the a/c. It was known as "The Gray Ghost"(off center to the rear of the wind screen. The lettering was in red.).
Right under the back canopy actually in line w/ the intake there is Ace of spades and a dagger going through the spade(again carried on both sides..)
The wing fences are painted a red and the outter lip of the intake is also painted red(scalop style (sp)).
One thing I noticed which is cool is that the bottom section of the main gear door have flames on themCool [8D].
From what I can tell it appears to be nothing on the wings at least the bottom section that is. As for the top I am not too sure. I would think(and I said think..Tongue [:P])that there would be no markings of any sort.
The other book shows this a/c from the left side. Where it says CSU, right under it it says SEVERE STORM RESEARCH.
I am not sure if this was applied to only the left side or was it later added.
Also to note not shown in the other book is a red Razorback on the speed brake w/ a white "A" on it.
Again was this added later on from the earlier pic that I have. Who knows??
Hope this helps ya out a lil. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at Falcon42177@yahoo.com
Flaps up,Mike

Mike, I'll need to get that Aerofax book, by the looks of it. I've got the Voodoo book already. I appreciate your help. I have the Revell 1/72 kit and it's a little gem, but I wanted to do something 'different' with it...

Mike,

THAT'S where I saw the photo! Couldn't remember where, for the life of me. No wonder I couldn't find it anywhere, I sold that book over two years ago!

I'm losin' it ! (Lost it a LONG time ago...)

Hi, If your looking for something different for F 101, try one of the wild schemes that the Canadians applied to their F101's. I have done the Hawk one Canada scheme from the 409 Squadron In Both 1/72scale and Just got the decals to do it in 1/48th scale. By the way the Revell F- 101B kit is excellent in 72nd scale not many fit problems. Let us know if you can still get the Aero book? If not I'm sure most of us can scan and send ya the pics your looking for!...........Sven

Thanks for your help guys! Blackwolf, let's face it, you never had it... LOL Truckie, yes, I'm still considerin the Canadian wild schemes, but they've been done before so the CSU bird is still a little bit more interesting...
