monogram classics?
sorry, i misunderstood, i thought this was the beginning of a comedy thread.
I have some of these classics and they are just that....classics. The spitfire and hurricane cockpits are empty as are the wheel wells. the canopies are reminiscent of those funny mirrors in funfairs. the rivets would be the size of golf balls if scaled up to correct size.
they are useless to the point of not being useful even as spare parts.
And in fact you can't blame it on time/old molds, as I am just attempting to finish the revell/monogram F-14 Black Bunny, bought only for the decals (which i applied to the aterilia F-14). Let's say it's such a bad fit that it's currently 70 per cent fill, 25 per cent glue and the rest is probably plastic!!! And don't get me started about the nipple at the end of the nose cone!!
There's only 2 good things about the revell/monogram Black Bunny.
1.... the swing wing is good and study ( if stiff and whiny)
2... good box for storing spare parts...no wait, that was the other tomcat.
One good thing then.

don't waste money on them, spend the dosh on almost ANY other kits/manufacturer, you'll save yourself a fortune in time and work and have an accurate kit to boot.

i love these kits. They need work, some tlc . Thats what the hobby is about to me ( well a big part of it. Lets face it,, Are you a modeler and craftsman or are you winding down ,,headed for buying pre-painted diecast or worse yet,,having others build em for you. Modeling is a skill and these kits give you the chance to use those skills, their not to bad but by no means do they match hasegawea or tamiya

Remember, gang. The molds for this kit are over 30 years old. They were the standard in their heyday. They're not Tamiya-level quality by any stretch of the imagination, but they're not really that bad.

You should all see the recently reissued Monogram A6m. I got a lot of problems building that one. The cockpit is empty and you can basically see through the landing gear "hole." Being my first model, I thought that was the norm!

I'm working on one now. The cockpit is empty, a decal for the instrument panel and a pilot glued to the back wall. Nothing else. No lines, boxes or anything. The propellor spinner is 2 parts, of different diameter. Glueing them together leaves a big ridge to fill. The wheel wells are holes cut in the bottom wing. I was cleaning the mold seam off a landing gear, and the axle broke off. It is very flimsy. There is plenty of room for detailing, if that is what you like to do.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

they are allright....the folding gear can be troublesome at times, folding up while sitting on your shelf, usually I shy away from them due to the poor detail, and they usually have unnesecary and troublesome rivets,at least on the 109 kit that is.

Monogram Classics??

I was wondering about some of the "Monogram Classics" models--especially the Me 109 E. I know that some of these kits are just re-boxed versions of the original (i.e. the Mosquito--fair for age, C-47--good, B-24D--good, etc).
But what sort of quality can be expected from the Me 109 E--is it worth the $9.00 at all?? (Would you consider the quality close to the Revellogram Spitfire Mk II, or P-51D??) Or is it a poor representation with a black-hole for a cockpit and wheel wells, and a blob for a pilot figure (like the Monogram Ghost Squadron Hellcat and Avenger kits)???
Basically, I would like a good quality (similar to the Monogram kits of the very late 70's through today), good representation aircraft for a shelf model--nothing to show for contest--without having to spend upwards of $30 for a Tamiya or Hasegawa kit.
Any thoughts, comments, advice, suggestions?? They'd be uch appreciated!
