Revell-Monogram Me163???
Posted by senojrn on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 8:03 PM
Hey--I heard a rumor that Revell-Monogram will soon be releasing a 1/48 scale Me 163 Komet. Actually, I heard this rumor about a year ago, saw it on the R-M webpage as an upcoming new release. It then disappeared soon after; then I saw an advertisement for a Pre-Order for this kit (from Model Expo.com), and saw a link with a kit review!!! But no one that I know of, nor even R-M's website mention or know anything about this release!
Does anyone know anything about this?? I have been wanting to build one of these fascinating little jets in 1/48 for a LONG time. My past experience with Testors plastics has not been good, so I was hesitant to buy the Testors kit of this.
Let me know what you think!! Thanks

A Brit magazine that I have, Scale aviaition modeller international, has listings for all of the new kits this year. sorry but I can't find the 163 in those lists. Sounds like RM were doing a deal with someone to release their kit & it fell through.
Looking on the bright side, maybe the list is wrong.

AHA!, down on page 6 of this forum section, your question is answered. The kit is by Revell Germany. It's the ex dragon kit reboxed. That's why it isn't listed as a new kit! All you have to do now is try to find it in the States, good luck.

great models ( www.greatmodels.com ) shows it as:
1/48 rmx5973 Messerschmitt Me.163B-1a Komet
they are taking pre-orders.
showing it as $19 retail, $14.50 their price
(numbers rounded for my convenience)
they have a link to a review as well. it is on:
http://features02.kitparade.com/me163pk_1.htm

they also list the testors kit for sale. cheap.
the review link is dead, and from what i have seen of testors plastic,
it probably committed suicide.
(my friend built their exclusive kitting of the P47-D Warp-o-Bolt
it had enough flash to build a second Jug. and calling the detail 'sparse' is like calling the Titanic a 'boat'!)
on the other hand, the kit is only $5. where else can you get $50 worth of aggravation so cheap?

good luck & enjoy!

I built the old Testor's one a dozen years back or so- not good. To be honest, I never finished the thing. It probably could be made into a decent build with a lot of work and extra detailing.

I think FSM has an article on detailing the Komet many years ago. I wish I still had that issue.

Doesn't someone make a 1/32 Komet?

Hasegawa makes a 1/32 Komet. still available (re-issued) and in the $20 ballpark.
FSM indeed had 2 articles on building that kit.
i could find the issues. they are not 'too' old.
'96 or newer to be in my collection.
i could get you the issue info. not sure if they are available as back issues or no.
also not sure abt the ettiquette of offering you scans or copies, since this is FSM's forum!

shall i at least find out which mags they were in?

Thanks for the offer- I would be interested in scans. Please E-mail me personally if you can help me out. I"d appreciate it!

Ettiquette on scanning/copying: Personally I feel it would be unethical to do so if they are currently available on the market and I have access to purchasing them if I want them. However, since I once owned these issues and have lost them, I paid for them once and have the right to view them again. Yeah, it's that simple.

I believe on of the articles dates back to the 80s.
