Hey Butz.....

Hi there butz..

You do remember a looong time ago I asked you about weathering my thunderbolt... well the day has come to start on it and I just need a lil help(AGAIN!!). My colour scheme is olive drab or silver(Depending on which colour scheme I use). What I want to ask you is.. Do I give the base coat of Grey before I paint the model in silver(one optional paint scheme) or do I only do that for the Olive drab paint? In any case then is it one or two layers before I carry on with the main colour... I've seen that the Tamiya acrylic chrome silver "flakes" in to a powder when I paint stuff.. Is the Gunze silver any better??

Since you started me off on this thing you're the guy who I must turn to in times of need!!!

Thank you very much in advance....

Thanking you once again,

Yours sincerely,
Nandakumar

Hey nand,
Its kinda scary but I do rememberTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)].
I would use a darkish gray(neutral gray) as a primer. Not only does the primer help you to find flaws like seams, pin marks and the like, it also puts a coating over the plastic which will help the paint stick better to the model itself.
When it comes to how many coats to apply, thats up to you my friend?? I would make sure the whole enter a/c has a good coat before carrying out the final painting. Just remember make sure you do this in light coats!!
I would use Testers buffable silver rather than Tamiyas silver. The buffable paint looks great when applied and you can use a soft cloth to tone the silver(buffing the paint) to get different tones on the various panels. Testers buffable also has a sealer that you must apply after the paint has dried. Basically this seals the paint so if you go to touch, the paint wont come off(it sounds worse than it really isTongue [:P]).
So which scheme are you going to dress her up in nandman??
Heres a pic of a P-47D Razorback in the OD and NG scheme.

And heres a pic of a natrual metal finished Jug.

Please let me know if you need anymore help and let me know if I missed anything regarding your question.
You can either e-mail me at Falcon42177@yahoo.com or Falcon174th@aol.com.
Flaps up, Mike
