Hi T.L.
The decal site is right except for the two little ">>" marks on the end. I don't know what they are called.
Just click on

Thanks For all your help guys. I feel I,m armed with all the tools to represent JEJs Spit. Now if Bobs link to Mr Grant and his decal expertise pans out it should turn out to be quite an awesome kit. Thanks, T.L.

http://www.wings-fine-arts.com/johnniejohnson.htm

a link for you, worth a read of this page, and the site is run by his son Mike.

JEJ's Labrador 'Sally' makes an appearance too Smile [:)]

i've just completed the Airfix 1:72 JEJ IX, its a late 50's kit but makes into a nice model for the scale, some say Mr Johnson was directly involved with its design........its still in production with upgraded decals so should'nt be hard to find.
Early Artwork had, as Bob mentioned was often the case, a green Maple leaf which has been corrected on the current boxart. the decal itself was always red tho.

TL if you can find it the original Airfix 1/72 kit was of Johnnie Johnsons Mk IX. There is also a picture in his book Full Circle.

Hi T.L.
Johnnie Johnson flew different Mk IX Spitfires and finished up actually on "low back" Mk XIVe's. As for his most famous Mk IX, it was an early IX with the early style air intake and elevators and the double cannon blisters. S/N was EN398. There are many photos of this a/c that have been published and many colour profiles done of it too although the artists invariably get the Maple Leaf logo carried below the windscreen wrong. The leaf was red, NOT green. Johnnie led the Kenly wing with this Mk IX in 1943. This Mk IX is reputedly the highest scoring IX ever.
He later led 144 and 127 wings with a later LF Mk IXc S/N MK392, which was converted to a IXe later in the year 1944. This one had the later style elevators, Aero Vee air intake, single blister cannon covers, and hemisherical mirror. He was very successful with this Mk IX and flew her into 1945.
I suggest getting the Osprey Publication "Late Marque Spitfire Aces 1942-45" by Dr. Alfred Price and "Spitfire-The Canadians" by Robert Bracken (a friend of mine).
1/32nd scale is very lacking in Spitfire decals for any Mark. I suggest getting in touch with Mike Grant <<http://www.cadvision.com/mikegrant/MikeGrantDecals/>>
who makes excellent custom decals. Johnnie Johnson's Mk IX Spitfires would be a cinch for him to do for you.
What conversion set are you using to make a 1/32nd scale Mk IX? Warbird Productions?
E-mail me direct if you have any questions.
Cheers
Bob S.

RAF Ace J. Johnson's Spitfire model & markings?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 5:58 PM
Hello, I'm trying to complete a 1/32 scale Aces series and I can't seem to find any information regarding Englands top ace James (Jimmy) E. Johnsons' Spitfire. I know he flew most models, but I think he finished up in a Mk9, or at least got most of his kills with that model. I could be wrong. I'm looking for any pictures showing his aircraft and where might I find decals for portraying his aircraft in 1/32. Any links or help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks T.L.
