Hot off the bench

I just finished this one today, so I thought I'd share it with you.
Its a 1/48 Hasegawa Bf 109K-4 with an Aires cockpit & Aeromaster decals for one of the planes flown in the ill-fated "Operation Bodenplatte." Hope you like it.

Very nice piece of work. Great job on the camo pattern and the definition on the panel lines looks very nice. How did you do the panel lines? Is that a wash or pencil job? Seat belts look like a nice touch - would like to see a shot more into the front office. Overall paint job is fantastic. Decals look good - no silvering. I would add some exhaust stains and possibly some gun blast stains. A piece of wire scavanged from an old mouse cable would make an excellent canopy retaining wire. Did you use a wash on the landing gear? They look pretty clean. Overall a beautiful piece of work. Kudos!

Swanny - the panel lines were done with an enamel wash over Future. The camo is freehand with a Badger 150 @ about 7 psi. There is a wash (subtle) on the gear. I prefer to use it only to add depth, not dirt. I usually keep my planes clean of exhaust & stains, just a personal preference. I still have to add the canopy & antenna wire (strands of the braided shield from an old coax [cable T.V.] work well for this)
Woody - you like it even if it isn't the "right" scale ? Just kidding.

demono - this one, with open canopy & nose spiral may prove tough to depict in flight, but I will try. I do have a Tamiya P-51done, & 2 Hasegawa P-51s to be built.
Dave - I just consider myself "Average Joe Modeler." All of the techniques that I use were from FSM & this forum. If I can do this with a bad right hand (genetic), anyone can.

Swanny - here's some shots of the Aires cockpit. I just finished this today & there's already dust on it !

Thanks, Keywoth & Frank ! Frank - I've had a cable modem for a couple of years now, so I forget how long it can take to download sometimes. I reduce the images to 1024 x 768 from 2272 x 1704. Good thing I can't post 'em THAT big !

Thanks, Model Grandpa ! For lighting, I use two 75 watt G.E. "Reveal" incandescent bulbs. These are color-corrected - they don't have the usual yellow glow of regular bulbs, and they're not hot like studio lighting. I really like them.

Thanks, nandman & J-Hulk ! The Hasegawa 109s are so nice, they practically build themselves !
nandman - this one will be difficult to depict in flight. The canopy is glued open with CA, & the spinner's spiral is tough to depict as actually turning. According to the Aeromaster sheet, this plane was brought down by Flak, so there may be a possibility there. I will see what I can do.

rickyinc - I used the old scotch frosty tape (& a new # 11 blade) on the canopy. Hasn't failed me yet.

Thanks, Sled ! I've probably built more Luftwaffe aircraft than any other type. I just try to post ones here that are not as common as 109s, FW 190s, P-51s, Spitfires, etc. I've got them, but I just try to be a little different.

What type of paints were involved?? and what paint to thinner ratio did you use. Especially for the side camo on the fuselage.

Looking really good, and great photos as well. I like the late war 109's they look very sleek and there are so many different colour variations to choose from. I am working on the 1:32 scale G-14 at the moment. I will post pics of as I build it.

Thanks, Butz, Jugman, & military_modeler ! I had a blast with this kit !
Butz - the cockpit is Color of Eagles acrylic RLM 66. The RLM 81, 82, & 76 are Model Master enamels, & the RLM "84" (close to MM "sky")& tire black are also Color of Eagles. The wheel hubs are MM flat black, W/ a brush coat of Future. The side camo was thinned to almost 50:50, sprayed at about 5 psi.I ran out of RLM 70 for the spinner, so I mixed RLM 82 & flat black. The color is close.
Jugman - the spinner swirl is a decal (Aeromaster). Luckily, I still have quite a bit of AeroSol & AeroSet left. It took about 5 or 6 applications of AeroSol to snuggle it down. I didn't have to cut the decal anywhere.
military_modeler - is that the new Hasegawa kit ? I've seen pics of them. Almost makes me want to change scales ! (and get a bigger house in which to display them !)
