Man, I'm really liking the badges you all have come up with. It's gonna be a tough call as to which one I use. May have to go with John's idea and alternate 'em!

I like both of them but to be honest I like the Terry Thomas one even better!

Excellent!    Tim, it may be a few weeks before I'm able to jump in full bore. Work on my WnW D.VII has been progressing steadily, and with most of the intricate work done (except for the guns) it is now on to the larger assemblies. I'll still be following along here with great interest. Can't wait to see what you fellas start turning out!  ....and maybe I'll even sneak in a session or two on the E.III before my D.VII is complete.

Maybe when the GB is done we could see the completed builds in a special Readers Gallery in an issue of FSM???

Hmmmmm, let me think on that one a bit and get back to you.

I like the idea of staff hosting group builds on the forum, and I am afraid that guaranteeing space in other areas may inhibit that, so I'm against asking for that.  If it happens later when the GB is done, by the staff on their own then it would be OK but on the front end it might be a negative.  Just an old salesman's instincts kicking in.

I see where your coming from John. But if next year the mag are doing something special to mark the 100th anneversary of WW1, then maybe the GB could be a part of that. Just a thought.

No one is guaranteed to get into the magazine (not even those who work here), and we couldn't make a deal like that even if we wanted to. I don't want to detract from the GB with discussions of how publishing the mag works, so ... the idea has been logged. Thanks for the suggestion, Freem.

Let's keep the focus on building some AWESOME WWI aeroplanes! Who haven't we heard from concerning possible paint schemes?

Just as a note, we're in a deadline week here at the office, so if there aren't as many posts from Aaron and me, it's because we're editing stories for May. We're around, but just might not answer as quickly as we might otherwise.

Sounds logical Tim. Just knowing that the idea is out there is fine. It's a group build first and foremost, with amazing potential, and that works for me. Anything else is gravy (which I love, BTW ).

...and in case I forgot to mention it, I feel honored to be a part of this GB, and to have yourself and Aaron as co-hosts. This is going to be epic!

I haven't picked out specific markings yet - still waiting the arrival of Osprey's new printing of Austrian Albatross aces.  Here are a few from Pheon decals set I've been considering until I read up on some of the pilots:

Because it is an FSM GB, best for us not to use someone's likeness. Helps me avoid explanations to higher-ups here in the office and then explaining to you later why we can't use it.

As for the new Osprey book, Austro-Hungarian Albatros Aces of World War 1, it so happens that it came across my desk last week. The D.III of Hptm Godwin Brumowski, Flik 41/J, Sesana, summer 1917, is an amazing looking aircraft. It would have to be done with decals because I'm not sure anyone could pull it off painting the scheme by hand.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Tim & Jack: Whoops! Didn't even think about Thomas's image being copyrighted. Thanks for the laugh Jack but I can see what Tim is talking about. 

It's going to feel weird building an aircraft again.   Been a while.  As far as color scheme I have it down to the 2.  I want to do something that has most of the wooden fuselage bare. The 1st Albatros I did only had a little showing.

The top scheme is from the "Wooden Wonders" decal set from WNW and the bottom is one of the kit schemes.  I like the top one because of the lozenge on the wings but the other 1 i did has that so I may go with the green/purple wings.  Can't decide.

Thanks Tim.  Yeah, I am kinda leaning that way.  Sure cold be a big time saver NOT cutting all the lozenge panels and NOT putting on all that rib tape and NOT putting on the linen texture decals. OKl... I think I just pushed myself off the fence
