Group Build - Armor Secret Santa - Santas Drivin' a Panzer this year!
Posted by smeagol the vile on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 7:29 AM

This is the OTHER offical Thread for the Brand New 2008 Scale Armor (and figure) Model forum Secret Santa Group Build!

I will be doing this along the lines of JWB's Aircraft Secret Santa group build, hes helping me with this.

Its going to work like this.  People send me a PM if they want to participate.  In the PM please include your name, FSM username, email addressmailing address, if you can mail overseas, and if you can "pinch hit" (This is for if someone drops out and there is noone to take their place you would stand in and send out a second kit to the person who lost their Secret Santa, so someone does not end up sending something out, and does not recieve something.) Also in the PM send if you have any requests.  A request would be best limited to something like 'no panzers' or 'American vehichles' or '1/35 WWII tanks.'  I ask you not be to specific because like JWB said to me "One guy might be able to spend $150 on a kit without blinking... for others $20 means a week of no lunch." So, in that mind, no requests like 1/8th motorized tanks.

If you are UNDER 16, please have your parent or guardian send me an e-mail at Smeagolthevile@gmail.com confirming that you are allowed to participate in this Secret Santa program.  (We cant have someone saying they will, then find out on christmas eve they their parents said no)

The deadline for entry will be, along with JWB's October 15th and you will recieve your secret santa partner on the 20th (hopefully)

If you sign up and CAN'T participate, please contact me in a timley fassion.  A timley fassion being preferably a month before Christmas so accomidations can be made for your recipient so they do not go without a shiny box on Christmas day.

Now, we have some bad things to talk about as well.  If someone does wait untill it is to late to cancle, without a good reason (like illness, or loss of job, or the apoclypse) instead of having a nice shiny present of a kit in the morning of Christmas under your tree, you will find  waiting for you!

One last note.  I know this is stated as armor, but I do not want to discourage anyone who does Figures (the kind that go with said armor) from joining in as well.  Your more then welcome.  I know most of us who do armor have done a figure or two for it at one time or another.  If you only do figures, specify that so I can set you up with someone who is like minded.

So I encourage you all to sign up, we should have alot of fun!

One last note, if you dont specify anything (from scale to type, and what not) I am going to assume General 1/35th scale .  If this is not alright for you, say so in your PM.

Hey, jwb (Jon) - SSGB - copyright violation call the Sheriff.

We all know Santa uses only propeller driven thingys, not armoured units.  But one of his elves can be the tank commander and pretend he is a tank-er to refuel Santa's aircrafts.   Just kidding. Big Smile [:D]

Sounds like fun.

It may just be me, but the title of this thread just doesn't "pop". Even though I was looking for this, it just kinda blended in.

Mabye something like "Armor Secret Santa Build" or "First Annual Secret Santa Armor Build" would catch some peoples' attention? "Holy Crap" just doesn't say "group build" to me.Big Smile [:D]

Just a thought.....I really hope this takes off.

Good point actually, I "knew" what to look for since I participated in the Aviation SecSan last year....

i'm in smeagol the vile, somehow it seems un-fair to our soldiers overseas,if they want to be involved they should communicate that they need a pinch-hitter also ,thumbs-up?i don't see to many hobby shops in basra, know what i mean.just want everyone seeing this to be involved.this is international correct.

or maybe have a "special" category in which our soldiers just receive something without having to send anything out? Have a list of people willing to send TWO kits out, one for a "regular" Secret santa and one to deployed personnel? And regardless of how you got your kit, you build and post the same badge upon completion.

some sprues for thought

Ahh, so you are saying you wouldnt beable to get a kit to send out because there is no where to buy from?

If someone that pinch hitted wanted to they could step up for you.  Also, you could order something on line (thats how I get ALL my kits) and either have it sent to you, directly to your secret santa reciever, or sent to one of us in the build (we can designate that at a later time) and have them send it out for you.

I'm not trying to keep anyone out.  Also, if we get more then one person over seas, its more then likley they will get eachother for a secret santa.  To save their butts on shipping costs.

I dont want to limit anyone from joining.  Im gona ask Jon (whos helping me with this, doing the aircraft secret santa, what he thinks)

Edit:  It is quite international.  Already have 2 (I think, atleast 1) sign up from land of Moose and Maple Syrup.

I personally have shipped overseas (for ebay) many times, as far from home as Japan, and australia, as close as canada or england or france.  Its not as expensive as you think, so yes, its VERY international.

I thought about this after I posted..forgot my own deployment! LOL  if you have an APO/FPO address, its like mailing CONUS plus couple days. And most online stores, you can specify a different SHIP address... so yo ucan order something and have it shipped to your recipient...

That makes 9.  Were on our way!

Now, to quote Jon again

"Even though I've not sent out recipients yet, I encourage you to be thinking on "extra" things you could send along if you'd like- maybe some pictures of you and your family, or a nice card, or anything else that could help make a connection between you and your recipient. I can guarantee they'll appreciate it!"

I full heartedly approve this, its a good way to make your gift even more of a personal one.

a note on the 9.  If puma would send me his info we would have 10...

Dunno aboutem for badges (the first one mysteriously appeared on the first post of this topic, the moment after I read it and liked it).

I was thinking something more along the lines of the group build title 'Santa's drivin' a panzer this year
