Posted by Air Master Modeler on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 7:13 PM

Here we go!!

Korean war to present day fighters and attack aircraft that have comfirmed Mig kills.

Mig kill markings are optional and only need to present the aircraft as it appeared when it got a MIG kill.

I'm new to group builds and don't know the rules, but I'm moderately interested.

Recently I purchased a my first Hobby Boss kit. A 1/48 scale Dasault Mirage IIIC.

It doesn't come with Israeli markings, but if I can find some I'd like to give it a go for the GB since the IAF clobbered many Migs with this type.

Trexx,

The only real valid rule here is that the model be of a modern combat or attack aircraft that has a confirmed Mig Kill. I beleive Zotz Decals makes decals for Isreali Mig Killers check them out. Be glad to have ya aboard. Let me know.

That should help you narrow it down, Trexx.  Additionally, look at http://www.isradecal.com/ for the markings, etc.

I'm looking at joining this, but would like to clarify one thing.  Does a Sea Fury classify as "modern combat aircraft"?  Or an A-1H Skyraider?  If not, I've got a myriad of other choices for this.

Is this air to air only or air to ground as well?

Good day

I am new to group builds but would like to join, does a SAAF Korean F-86 sabre count for this build?

Good Morning,

Smitty, I did a bit of research and YES, the Sea Fury does count.. it has a comfirmed kill over a Mig-15 in Korea and also the Skyraider accounted for a Mig kill during Viet Nam.

Lew, Air to Ground attack aircraft do count since a few do have comfirmed kills over Mig's (see above)

Mike, The F-86 is a great choice and as far as I know many Korean F-86 jockeys did get kills over Migs.

I will be posting the GB badges here later. No need to wait until you complete a build to get one. Grab one and let everyone know your participating in this GB.

We are off to a great start and and I decided this GB will officially begin Saturday, November 1st and will end next year November 30th. This should allow time to get materials and allow others to join us. Most of all guys have fun, share info and dont hesitate to ask for help.

WELCOME ABOARD!

Rand,

Put me in for the 1/72 Trumpeter Sea Fury FB.11, markings of 802 Sqn. The Trumpeter kit at least has the markings for the right plane that downed the MiG-15 in 1952.

Great choice Smitty!

I am pulling my Super Bug from GB because this type A/C have no Mig Kills and I'll need to find another kit for an AC that got a mig kill. I did the F-4J Phantom II "Showtime 100" last time. I am going to have a hard time deciding what plane I'll do now.

Has a searchable database of kills from all over the world and should help out matching what you have in the stash with a MiG killer.

I may end up doing another for this, possibly an IRIAF F-4E with a confirmed MiG kill in 1988 or the A-1H Skyraider with the MiG-17 kill and keep with the "props kill jets" theme.  Then again there's always the Israeli F-15C with it's possibilities, or the Saudi F-15C from Desert Storm...the possiblities are literally endless.

I really want to do an American Mig Killer, so my first 2 choices are either an F-15C or an F/A-18C. I am really leaning toward doing the F/A-18C VFA-81 from ODS. Finding decals for this bug will be a problem.

SuperScale sheet 48-417, VFA-81 MiG Killer.

Repli-Scale sheet 48-5032.

Both have markings for the VFA-81 F/A-18C.  Both OOP for a while...

It's on sale, has the markings for the Bug you're looking for.  1/48th scale.

Good luck.

Matt,

Thanks for the heads up on the decals. I decided I am definatly going with the F/A-18C, VFA-81 Mig Killer. I only hope the decals will still be there when I am ready to buy them next month. I also need the F/A-18C Bug kit and I am eyeballing buying one off E-vil-bay. Yuck [yuck]@eBay.

Aint she sweet! I am eyeballing a Revell F/A-18C on ebay for this build. Hope its still there when I am able to get it.

Hi Guys

I'd like to be part of this. I'll be doing either a  1/48 Hasegawa Israeli F-16A , or a 1/48 Classic Air Korean War RAAF Meteor.

Edit 1 : OK - it will be the Meteor. out of box, as Royal Australian Air Force Machine A77-851. Flight Sergeant George Hale claimed one Mig 15 kill and one probable in this machine.

Put me down for the 1/72 Trumpeter Sea Fury as well.  Was tempted by Glenn's Mig Mad Marine F-86 at the LHS, but I'm trying to thin the stacks a little bit (will probably go back and pick it up on payday).  Can someone explain why a Marine Col. was flying a USAF aircraft in combat?  I also saw the Airfix Sea Fury as well, and it's box takes up a third of the shelf space that the Trumpeter does for the same size kit.

Thanks Simon.  I've seen that plane several times over the years and I never thought why a USMC Col was flying a USAF aircraft.  Just as it never occurred to me that a Google search would explain this.

Actually, it's quite interesting to look at pilots who got to go on some pretty adventurous operations whils on exchange postings. Flt Lt Dave Morgan is one who springs to mind. He got Kills in the falklands war whilst on exchange from the RAF to the RAN ( no migs though - the Argies had A4's, Mirages, Daggers etc )
